It seems that if i go in as an extern with my college i'll be housed and put together with college program people as well. Can anyone give me a headsup on housing or what i should look out for? I only ask because i feel like sometimes the information they give isn't the entire story. Thank you! :)
It's been a while since I was there, but I can give you some basic information. However, stuff may have changed (especially with transportation), and rules may have changed, so consider everything herein ballpark.
College program housing is very dormlike, in that they pack a lot of people into a relatively small space. There are three apartment complexes for the CP on property: Vista Way, the Commons, and Chatham Square. VW is the oldest. The Commons is mostly for International students, so you probably won't be there. CS is newer and nicer, but there's less stuff you can walk to (or at least there was; I don't know if new stuff has been built). There's a Walgreens right across the street from VW, which is very convenient.
If you have a 3-bedroom apartment, you will have 5 roommates. You don't get to pick your roommates. There are options for smaller apartments with fewer people, but they are more expensive. The rent is taken out every week directly from your paycheck.
Rooms are small. You'll have a closet that you share with your roommate. However, since you all will be working all the time, the apartment won't feel as crowded as it otherwise might. Often you will come home to a completely empty apartment.
Rules on the College Program are very strict, and Disney isn't kidding when they say that some offenses are terminable. They will fire you if you are caught with overnight guests (ie, non-CPs) in your apartment; they will fire you if you drink and are underage; they will fire you if you are late or absent too many times. You must notify Security when you have guests, and you can only sign in so many at a time.
Let's see, what else: there's coin laundry on site, there are pools, there are basketball and volleyball courts, there's a computer lab so you can check your e-mail.
Transportation: if you don't bring your own car, you will be dependent on Disney's buses for the CPs. You will be able to get anywhere on property on the buses. They also have regular shuttles to Wal-Mart so you can do grocery shopping, and they might have a shuttle to the local grocery store. (The Wal-Mart thing actually kind of pisses me off. I boycott Wal-Mart, and while I don't expect everyone to do that, the fact that Disney provides a free shuttle there basically means that almost all the CP students are a captive audience for Wal-Mart's benefit. Grrrr.)
What else would you like to know?
