On out last trip in 2007 you could see crack in the ceiling paint.

I feel sorry for those of you who have to deal with the SGs that came to WDW just to ride Space Mountain and for whom you are now runing their vacation. :D:

Our last trip two of my favorite rides were closed for rehab... Haunted Mansion and that big golf ball ;) . What can you do.

BTW... who here misses the old SM cars where you sat on the bench seats and had to ride with someone in your lap. I always feel as though I am sitting too high with the new cars.

My first ride on SM was on those bench seats. It may have been at DL, or earlier at WDW (if at WDW it would have been in 1996, if it was at DL it would have been 2000)...

Anyway, when my DS was 5, we went to WDW and we went on SM and i thought it had the bench seats..

all the way through the long walk i was telling him how i would hold on to him tight. (it was his first roller coaster type ride..)
then we load and it is the new seats...

i was freaked.. but he sat in the front and put his hand up over his head for me to hold.. he was a brave boy ;)

when we got off it.. he was PALE white... like he had seen a ghost ... but he said he liked it.. when i asked if wanted to go again.. he said NO... .it was cute ;)

he went on again this year for the first time since then... and he loved it! (sadly the refurb means he can't go on it this year, but the next time we go.. he will be able to experience a whole new ride!)

It would have had to have been earlier at WDW. Disneyland Space Mountain never has had bench seats (out here, that's Matterhorn's thing.)

I saw it on the news this morning. I told my husband, "Awwww, now we can't see the Chocolate Chip Cookie Meteorites on the ceiling". He looked at me like I was crazy.

My best friends STILL swears that he smacked his hand on a pole... well, maybe...

"So, do you like, get tickets for free because you live in Orlando?"

"Yes, sir! It's like the welfare office but you have to have Mickey tattooed on your left calve to prove your identity"

"Did it hurt?... Let me see it!"

Well, I know there are places I can touch if that's what you're into, namely the tunnels. I would have to assume that the entire attraction is based around those dimensions, the tunnels or wider. While I've never been on the ride with the lights on, I can't imagine there aren't places you can touch bars. If I had to guess, that's where the urban myths of people being decapitated come from. Anyone with more exprience than me have anything to add?

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Never could understand that whole, "I gotta touch something while on a really fast ride" concept. (lets see...I'm in a ride that is moving fast, let me contact the METAL that is flying by with my fingertips.) I guess when they were little, they never learned the lesson that human flesh is WAY more delicate and able to be damaged when coming in contact with a more durable object..like say metal, or pavement, or a HOT stove, or....(well, most of us get the idea)

The reason the DL rehab took so long was it was a safety issue. They had to close it NOW! Then they had to make plans, let contracts, and order stuff (like track).

Here they obviously have been planning on what needs to be done, letting and finalizing contracts, and ordering items. So Saturday April 18 will be the last day of operation, by Sunday the walls will be up, and by Monday they will already be doing the work.

Okay, so now we know how a ride that only goes 28mph is so exciting. Drugs!!! :rasta:

Well, being a former slave of Tom Marrows, i can say that the bars are very close to your ride vehicle. Remember this is a "mouse" type coaster like what you would see at the state fair ( or even prime evil hurl ). The closest the bars come to your head is between 12 and 18 inches. soooooo yes you can touch them.

Now if they do to SM like what they have been talking about then Zazu..... 28 mph will be a thing of the past....

some of the things that where discussed that may and very well might happen are...

1. Automatic station gates at the the load platform
2. New entrance and exit sceens / atmospher
3. NEw lighting effects, to include better choc. chip cookie meteors
4. Possable Linear Induction launch system ( See RnR )
5. Two wide car seats ( you know for fat americans )
6. Shoulder restraints
7. Music in the head rest
8. New Track layout
9. if they do the LIM's to launch then a ne station ( from the rumor mill... its going to be part of the old skyway station.
10. Ride Photo System with possable photopass card like test track.

Personally, I'd think it's almost a given that they're going to have to install station gates. I don't even work that attraction, but I've seen enough people come close enough to falling that I can't see how they won't add them. Bye Bye GCT.
