I knew a guy who had a gold ring put into his nose. It lasted about a day. His undoing was drinking a hot cup of coffee and having the ring dip into the coffee. Apparently the screams were heard far and wide. :D:Mayonnaise wrote:I don't view any piercing thru the ear or nose as dumb.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

OW. He should have been more careful with a fresh piercing. There are plenty of ways to drink coffee that don't involve practically dipping your nose in it.

Some materials transfer heat faster than others kids. You, with the gold ring in your nose, please step to the front of the class. We'll now have a practical demonstration. How's your medical insurance doing dude? :twisted:GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:(que: Bill Nye) Now kids, we are going to learn about heat transference!!

What Mayonnaise said. Piercings aren't inherently unsafe or stupid; it's just that some of the people who get them are dumb, and don't take care of them, or sometimes just unlucky and get infected no matter what they do.
I think some people look great with different types of piercings; I've seen people who can really rock eyebrow piercings, ear-stretchers, lip piercings, and others. I wouldn't do it myself - I don't even have my ears pierced - but on some people it totally works.

This is what makes me HATE the BS government and laws. How about the parents punish the girl for doing wrong. She knew her parents would not approve, that's why she had another adult take her. How about arresting the other adult for taking her. He is just as much to blame if not more then the shop. He knew it was wrong.
It's sad that some guy that was just doing his job to make a living got wrapped up in this. God how I hate teenage brats.
It is a way of expressing yourself. it has been around since the dawn of time. I can't understand why people think it is so wrong to get piercings and tattoos (or even for men to have long hair)? Lets look back at a few well known people in History. Samson, got his mighty strength from his long hair. Mosses, (also long hair as any pic of Jesus you ever seen) Piercings in his ears. And a little fact that most people choose to over look. tattoos were VERY common in biblical times. I can assure you that Jesus himself and all of his disciples (more then just the 12 mentioned) had tattoos. It was also a way to identify other members of a group. That still holds true today. I do not know when, where, or why the sight of a tattoo/piercing became a negative thing. They are works of art. I have 2 tattoos and will be getting 3 more soon. One of which is my family crest.
WHAT???? Where does it say that Jesus was tattooed? The Bible plainly states that tattooing was forbidden in the Mosaic Law: Lev.19:28 :"You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print (tattoo) any marks on you; I am the Lord your God." What you see in artwork is the artist's rendering, not fact. I've seen lots of blue-eyed, blond-haired pictures of Jesus, but people in that part of the world normally have dark brown eyes and dark hair. Earrings were worn in the lobe, and were for personal ornamentation, and even showed tribal affliation. And if you read your Bible a little more carefully, it was God, not specifically Samson's long hair, that was the source of his strength. His mother promised God that her son would be a Nazarite from birth, meaning he was to never cut his hair or consume grape products of any kind. As long as Samson kept his hair long, he was obeying the law of the Nazarite, so God worked through him. When he was shaved by Delilah and her hired man, that broke the law, and God departed from him--until his hair grew back again.
As for self-expression, what's wrong with writing, the other arts or sciences, or expressing one's personality through service? I've never heard anyone being praised for their tats, but what they did--read a few obituaries.
Let's end this before Zazu makes it compulsory.

I understand the objection but I believe the real issue is what the issue always is and that is parents not being parents.
Look, I know temptation, but I NEVER had an inkling of doing something so stupid when I lived in my mama's home.
She would have ripped it out with her bare hands. "As long as you're under my roof.." And you know what? The difference is, I gave her that respect.
I did not get a tattoo until I was an adult. It was my choice and I don't regret it. But I also made sure it's in a place that doesn't interfere with my work. I have a spider on my ankle.
Shame on these places for wanting to make that quick buck. Look, there are many of age adults that have things done. Why would you assist a child in leaving behind that scrap of childhood?
Once you're 18, it's up to you to make good choices. Until then, do what your parents tell you. Well, the good parents that actually give a damn, anyway.

My oldest kid announced that when she went off to college she was going to get tattoos and piercings. I told her if she's got enough money for them then she won't need my help with tuition and room and board.LittleDollClaudia wrote:Once you're 18, it's up to you to make good choices. That was the end of the Great Tattoo and Piercing Story.
