Yea, I know. I have been lucky enough to catch BW a couple of times in the last 2 weeks, he's been coming in and I've been leaving.

The other problem is I live so far away and now, I'm working 2 jobs during the week (0900-1800 and 1900-0000ish) and driving on the weekends.

Bump! Cause I'm at it again... I never did find Cranbiz. :(

When I went to WDW a lot of you folk told me I needed to visit DL too... I said I needed to wait, because well... I just don't make enough to do Disney that often, but it's been two years now, and Jake is dragging me to Powermorphicon in Pasadena at the end of the month, and we got the 5 for 3 deal... sooooooo.....

If anyone wants to be found in DL August 30-September 4th, PM me plz!!! That's when I'll be there, along with Jake, who if we don't get his knees fixed soon, will be seeing the park mostly from a pushchair.

Off Topic-ing my own thread here...

Now I've read on here before that the lines in Disneyland, as opposed to Walt Disney World, are not as wheelchair accessible, and it's looking like I'm going to need to rent a pushchair for my Jake. They're not sure what's wrong with his knees... he wears two lycra braces, and can't stand for more than 10 minutes at a time. He can walk somewhat slowly over short-medium distances, but cannot cover medium-long distances... i.e. from the front to the back of Wal*mart.

What I'm wondering is how best to not be SGs with an only partialy mobility impaired individual. I know we're going to need the chair, or it will take him till closing to make it to the end of main street, but will there be someplace that we can park the chair near each attraction and have him stand and go thru the regular queues so we can not take alternate entrance advantage? Can we park the chair and use normal seating at shows? We really only need it because of the distances he'll have to cover.

Basically we want to use the minimum possible special treatment possible without killing Jake's fragile knees.

It's generally true, depending on the age of the attraction. 1955 didn't have today's awareness of the need for accessibility.

Sounds like my father. Can't travel the length of Main Street on foot, but can hop out of his chair, lean on the rails in the queues, and climb in and out of the boat. Gets him some funny looks, but not so funny as the paramedics when he faceplants.

I'll let my DL friends give you the specifics, but I believe you'll be able to get a "Guide for Guests with Disabilities" at your Disney hotel or City Hall that lists which attractions permit wheelchairs, which have alternate entrances, and which you just have to park and muddle through. Armed with that knowledge, you all should be able to enjoy a day in the Park with minimal confusion and delay.

How 'bout it DLers? Have you got such a Guide, or is WDW better on this point? :D:

The lines for almost all attractions at WDW are "mainstreamed". This means that the queue is set up to allow wheelchairs and/or ECVs to go through the line just as a person without a mobility problem. As it was built prior to the ADA, the Magic Kingdom is most likely to have non-mainstreamed lines. Some attractions, such as Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion you will go part way through the regular queue and then be diverted. Other attractions, such as Big Thunder Mountain or SpaceShip Earth you will initially be directed to an accessible entrance.

Do not park the wheelchair; some of the queues, such as Soarin' and Safari, are actually about a 1/4 mile from start to load and just as long from unlod to actual exit.

All the theaters are set up with seats (usually in the back row) removed so a wheelchair or ECV can pull into a space and there will be regular seating on either side of the space for the others in the party.

Where there are quantity limits on space, or other limitation involving accessibility, you may have to wait longer to see a show or ride an attraction than people without disabilities.

The normal (and official) response of Guest Relations to people with mobility and/or stamina issues is to recommend rental of a wheelchair or ECV. The Guest Assistance Card (GAC) is intended for "invisible" disabilities not related to mobility or stamina. A wheelchair or ECV is sufficient to notify Cast Members of special assistance normally needed. However, if a person has other issues, such as auditory or visual, they would probably also need a GAC.

Note that a GAC is not intended to allow bypassing of lines, and it so states on the card itself. The only people who will get the special Front Of The Line GAC are where a terminal or medically fragile child is traveling on a trip from Make A Wish or similar foundation.

You might want to go to http://www.disboards.com and look at the "disABILTIES" Forum, which is about the 17th one down the list.

One of the first items there is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which gives lots of useful information and links. You can scan through for threads which might interest you.

It is a moderated board just as this one. Anybody can read anything, but to post you have to register. Also, if you register it will keep track of when you were last on and bold all thread titles that have been created or updated since you were last on and even know which post in each thread you had last seen.

If you decide to visit DCA, I'll be there! Though I don't know how far into the future we're talking about, you can always PM me before you show up!

RIP Bud Hurlbut.

You will be missed.

DisneyMom, We'll be at the Anaheim Marriott, but the cost of the scooters is a bit above our projected budget. Jake, while tall, is a scrawny fellow, and so we've decided to rent a chair at the lower price, unless of course those places will do the scooters for at or around the 12 dollars a day we'll have to pay for the chair.

Cheshire, thank you, but I was asking about DL in California, not WDW, in Florida. As I mentioned, and was confirmed by Zazu, the lines have less accessibility there. I am a little reluctant to check out that forum, primarily because I do not wish to give any additional pageview/income to the man who runs it, owing to bigoted remarks on his part about us Hispanics, but I will keep that in mind if I cannot find information other ways.

Freak, Jake and I will be there August 30th thru September 4th. I'm not sure which park on which day, except that we'll definitely be in Disneyland Park on Friday, so we can see the West Coast's Fantasmic. (It's apparently not running Mon-Thurs during our visit.)

Well, I'm glad you have given yourself so much time to see DLR-my suggestion is go early a few days to hit the rides without the waits and then
go back to hotel for food and rest.Does Marriott have breakfast served? That will help costs. Unfortunately, ecvs cost at least mid $30 mark/day to my knowledge, maybe someone here knows a better, cheaper way? Feel free to PM me for other suggestions ;)
