For those others who might be wondering, transfers like that *do* work at many of the stations on the T, including all of the Red, Orange and Blue line stations. But the Green Line is only underground in the heart of the city. Eventually the lines go above ground and operate as streetcars. Some stops resemble outdoor train platforms on their own right-of-way, others are nothing more than wide medians with the train tracks going down the middle of the wide boulevard (and I think some stops are even just right in the street, but those are on branches that I don't ride).
Once you get off at one of the above-ground stops, you'd have to pay to get back on another train. (When the trains are above ground, you use a fare box next to the driver, like on a bus. At the underground stations, you pay to get into the station)
