Oh very well, but just a short one. I'm opening tomorrow and the alarm goes off at 5 stinking o'clock.


I don't have to tell this group about the windows on Main Street, right? They all pay tribute to the Imagineers who designed the place, sort of like the credits on a film.

Trouble is, about six years ago we realized that we didn't know who all those people were. We didn't even have a list of the windows! This just wouldn't do, so we began a program to track down each of the names and write a short bio of these men and women that told *why* they deserved to have their names up in lights.

It wasn't easy, but it was fun. We gathered a lot of data, met some great people, and are now prepared to answer guest questions when they walk up to City Hall. Except for one...

One double window that had six names on it had us stumped. We found five of the people listed, but none of our resources, including my own "Disney Reverence Shelf", gave a clue. We finally admitted defeat and sent off an email to Imagineering's Human Resources to ask what job the person did for the Company.

Took a while, as it turned out the person didn't work for Imagineering, but directly for WDW... for only six months... in Central Shops... in the sign shop.... Yeah, you guessed it, painting names on windows.

Seems he didn't like the looks of the window with five names in two columns, and rather than break one of the names across the two windows, he had added his own name so it came out even.

Needless to say, we were upstairs with a razor blade as soon as the guests cleared the Park. For several years thereafter, the window looked a bit odd with three names on one side and two on the other. It's now been redone, so don't bother trying to find it.

But if anyone ever tells you that only the greats ever get their name on a window on Main Street, now you can tell them you know better.

Rather than scratching out his name you should have left it up as a tribute to thinking on his feet, a little guerilla tagging, and a good inside story that management never caught on to.
