Somehow I knew that subject would be brought up here. On another board that's discussing this topic, someone is trying to relate that case with the billboard. Since when does a fictional character with pale eyes and and cuts on her skin from the broken mirror have anything to do with a bad mommy? Best not to answer that one, don't want to start another bitchfest on that, lol
This HHN billboard brouhaha is just about as stupid as the outcry from a FL humane society over the Checker's Rapcat promotion a year or two ago. I swear, this sort of thing makes Floridians look more and more like whiney idiots, and as a Floridian myself I find the whiners to be the most offensive thing of all.
I've been thinking, what if a big group of us SGTers start parading around downtown holding up signs saying "Want some cheese with that whine?" and other catchy slogans that show how stupid these mommies or anyone who complains over really stupid things actually look. If we're lucky, we could make the news like they did, and hopefully that'll get our point across there's no use in whining about a seasonal event. I bet these are the same mommies that go around complaining they see a Christmas tree and not a "holiday tree" and whine when they don't see a menorah in a public place.

Ok, I just saw the story on the afternoon news. Yeah, I flipped through the different channels to see which one would actually air it, and low and behold, the only news station that I despise airs it. I won't name any names because some of you, this might be your favorite news source. Anyways, what I don't understand is how come this billboard is so offensive and so bad, but yet they were able to show it all, closeups, pan and scans, the long shot, all of the billboard that's too disturbing that should be taken down. I've seen other billboards that have had some uproars before, but when they aired them, they only shown parts of it and blurred out the rest, or not even shown it at all and just talk about it. So this makes me wonder if this newstation has nothing else better to do than to allow these mommies their short lived 15 minutes of fame, or do they just like the fact that it's in a sad attempt at bashing Universal's HHN?

I found this billboard a friend of mine has made and posted on another forum, thought it was hillarious:

Thats a good idea, except they are so obsessed with their "Holier than thou" attitude, that they would simply use the "Simpsons" famous phrase "Won't sombody think of the children?"

It's funny, my grandkids were scared of stuff like thatn...UNTIL, they hit that age where is was "cool!" to like scary things. and we went through a couple of Halloween's with gross horror costumes. then it switched to superheros, and so on.

I don't beleive there would be any pleasing them, no matter what universal did.

They should capatalize on the free publicity, and "white out, bloody mary, and in big bold letter, put something like:

"Way to scary for kids...and some adults!!!"

I would bet the attendence would go up!!!

As part of the promotion, Checkers bags doubled as Rapcat shirts, where you could cut out paw holes and dress your cat in the bag. They were going to have people send videos of their cats dressed in the "shirt." Some FL humane society said it was cruelty to animals and that it would subject anyone doing it to prosection!! Uh, maybe they'd better get their lame butts down to Petsmart and any of the other pet stores that sell actual animal costumes. Those are okay, but a bag isn't? If the cat struggled, the bag would just tear anyway.

I'd love to be out there protesting against the protesters, or perhaps lobbying the governor's office to make Excessive Whining a crime. After all, we're the state that passed a gun law called "Utterly ridiculous" by the judge who shot it down (pun intended) and that passed legislation that would have required people in the lefthand lane to speed over the limit (I kid you not...going the limit or below in the left would have been illegal), but thankfully that one got vetoed. I hate left lane putzers as much as the next person, but to force them to speed over the limit under the penalty of law?!

I can tell you exactly what was happening. Some group was trying to make a no-win situation. If you're in that left lane, you're obviously speeding.

I bet they thought "since everyone speeds in the left lane, might as well make it legal. They do that sorta stuff in other countries, so why not here?" Well, in other countries, they don't have as many whiney impatient people as we do here. I'm sure we've all delt with them on the roads before, they don't need to have their own lane. This isn't Burger King, you can't have it your way all the time, plain and simple.

Well, that idea worked for me. When I was in Drivers Ed. in high school they showed "Red Asphalt" . I never wanted to put my parents through that situation and I buckled up after that too. My father having been in Shore Patrol, reenforced that lesson by briefly stating what had happened while he was on duty. Not Pretty and I admire what you all do in the medical, military community.

Who is behind the anti-Universal billboard campaign?
By Robert Niles
Published: September 5, 2008 at 10:59 AM

There's been lots of big media attention in Central Florida over the past few days about Universal Orlando's ad campaign for Halloween Horror Nights.
Specifically, a mothers' group is complaining the billboards put up around the tourist corridor are too graphic and disturbing for young kids. "This year, I find the billboards truly unacceptable to our community," one mom was quoted in the Orlando Sentinel (see story linked above.)

My initial thought when reading these stories was... "you've got to be kidding." This 'protest' is simply going to give Universal Orlando a ton of free publicity for HHN. I wonder if it is real?

So I Googled "Erin Heston," the mom quoted in the Sentinel piece. Turns out she's... a PR agent. Her personal website now redirects to a parked domain page, but search-engine caches of PDFs from the site show that she is a "communications consultant" and was a PR rep for Enterprise Florida, "a public-private partnership serving as Florida’s primary organization devoted to statewide economic development."

(Erinheston.com was first registered on Aug. 30, 2006, according to NetworkSolutions.com and expired on the same day this year, which is why the domain is no longer active.)

So, if this is the same Erin Heston, and I couldn't find any records for another one in Orlando (using a variety of online people searches), we've got a PR campaign from a professional PR agent, who once represented an economic development organization, that's resulting in a ton of free pub for an event that's a huge economic boon to Central Florida in what used to be a pretty slow time of the year.

Astroturf? Or blowback? Either way, I'm sure that UO is loving the attention.

So the original person complaining had a kid of 3 years old and 9 months. Both technically should be in the backseat for safety reasons. So the simple thing should be, get those tinted or character sheets that attach to the back windows so the kids can't see out the windows.... problem solved.

Oh wait.... that was a common sense solution.... that doesn't exist anymore.

Light travels faster than sound. Perhaps that is why people appear bright until they open their mouth.
