Could I get a discount for STRESS?
Hey, my cousin Fran used to work for the city of San Jose!!! They used to live in Milpitas (back when the Ford plant was still there), but she and her hubby moved to Modesto a couple of years ago.
I think that you deserve a BIG discount for stress

And the parkwide employee discount should go higher for each additional 5 to 10 years of service. Anyone who's been there more than 15 years deserves at least a 50% discount on merchandise just for putting up with a lot of crud for so many years...

I agree 100%. I don't think any little castle can compensate for all the crudola. (crudola doesn't really work as a word.. but I couldn't use the alternative.)

ha! can't you just see the newest category in merchandise? rather than character merch, it's crudola..."yes ma'am, right over here...did you want rat crudola or duck crudola? perhaps some princess crudola for your wee daughter there..."

I thought that is what all merch is right now anyways. It's mostly just junk. Which is kinda sad because almost 20 years ago my mom bought a really nice picture frame, which is no longer sold anymore. It wasn't really expensive for 1984. It was hand carved wood, and she still has it to this day. But now everything is mass produced in China, and poor quality. I doubt anything would last more than a few years.

BirdMom,
I live in Milpitas, across from the ex-Ford plant, which is now the (Not So)Great Mall. Weird coincidences huh?

back when I used to work at Knott's, I guess the public got all t-ed off w/ the military "discounts" during veterans days, so shortly thereafter, they had a fire/law promotion. Ok, no big deal, but THEN they had health care AND social workers promotions. I thought all this reaching out and giving everyone the same stuff was completely ridiculous! But, when it comes to professions that require a much higher education credential, I'm sorry, but I don't think they should be asking for discounts just because of their professions. I personally think it makes them look like they have less class.

oh my gosh!!! I wonder how many times I drove past your place on my way to the cousins when I lived in Morgan Hill and Mountain View!!!
One of our friends Mark Y., a parade guy, used to work at Great America. He's been playing Dumbo and other characters in that height range in Anaheim for quite awhile now.... I don't know what he did in Santa Clara....

I remember those frames - they used to sell them in Frontierland, and whitewashed versions on Main Street - I have some of them as well! They're great for wedding pictures. There used to be some really wonderful merchandise at all price points - there were these adorable Royal Daulton figurines of the Brambley Hedge characters (a British children's book series rather like Peter Rabbit), the old Pendleton shop used to sell FABRIC and Vogue patterns - hello - seamstress heaven, along with the excellent Pendelton clothing lines for men and women (Walt used to wear their plaid flannel shirts - he was the one who brought them in). I remember seeing Kirk's Folly Picture Frames in Tinkerbell's Toy Shop (they used to be carried in Nordstroms - incredibly inventive jewelry), along with the Madame Alexander and Effembee dolls. Even the old Hallmark Shop where Disney Clothiers is now located was a treat because they had a huge selection and it was convenient!!! The rock shop, the indian trading post, the candle shop - Lillian Disney's One of a Kind Shop (that was her baby - the antiques), the old Marche des Fleurs and original Gourmet Shop. Mlle Antoinette's Parfumerie... damn... you just can't get that good stuff there anymore.
And that's another bad thing about the high cost of general admission. Back in the day when there were ticket books and general admission was under $10, people would buy a ticket to go in, eat dinner and shop. And they would really shop. Now, I suppose you'd have to buy an annual pass to make it work out the same - then of course, the ap would want a... DISCOUNT.

I live on Maui. If you have a Hawaiian ID you get what's called a kama'aina rate or discount. Depending on the hotel, store or restaurant, we get anywhere from 10 to 50% off.
Of course, the other side of that is we pay 35% more for everything, except at Costco, and shipping is off the charts.
