Woah!!! is the switch exposed so that anyone can trip it? That sounds like a bad thing!Ladyfair wrote:Here's a new variation on the "get me the ramp in 1.2 nanoseconds" theme I just encountered a couple of weeks ago.
I went up the monorail ramp in my ECV and was sitting on it in the compartment, thinking of getting up and sitting with DH and the girls. All of a sudden, the car fills with about 12 members of a single family. OK, no problem, I'll just stay on the ECV. They immediately surround me, then when we get to TTC, they begin running around me to get out, and my ECV begins TO MOVE WITH THEM!!!!! They had kicked the switch, and I was in free roll!
I immediately grabbed both posts, and nearly got my arms yanked out of the sockets. Since this family is running around me, the monorail people at the station can't see me to get the ramp, and DH is trying to get me stationary instead of waving at the attendant to bring one. In the meantime, the people from the other side are trying to load their stroller into the spot where I am, rampless......
It was a mess.

Depends on the ECV but most are in the back and could be kicked easily by a bunch of scrambling kids.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:Woah!!! is the switch exposed so that anyone can trip it? That sounds like a bad thing!
OONe thing I like about my PWC is the free wheel mode is two levers one for each wheel and they are in the front so not easily accidentally moved.

I guess that is for someone to assist the person in the ECV? I would think that it would be somewhere easier for the rider to control. Such as on the side or below and between the legs, and so forth.TalkingHands wrote:Depends on the ECV but most are in the back and could be kicked easily by a bunch of scrambling kids.

Re: Taking Advantage
A friend of ours went to the movies one day, opening weekend for one of the summer blockbusters so lines were long. there was a lady there on crutches that told the ticket taker she needed to go in forst because she was "disabled" so they let her party go to the front of the line and enter before anyone alse. The theater has stadium style seating and the seats reserved for the handicap are 3 rows on the floor right in front of the screen, these rows are level with a walkway behind them then the stadium seats that go up steaply. This lady went in and climbed the stairs and picked a nice spot right in the middle of the theater. The usher told her she could not sit there, when she asked why he told her she was handicap and she had to sit in the handicap seats in case there was an emergency and they had to evacuate. They would not be able to deal with a disabled person in the stadium seats only in the handicap seats. she tried to argue but it didnt help, claim handicap for special treatment sometimes you get the special treatment, like a handicap seat in a theater, right in front.

HA!! I'll bet she doesn't try that again, at least in that particular theater. Good for the usher.svickersart wrote:A friend of ours went to the movies one day, opening weekend for one of the summer blockbusters so lines were long. there was a lady there on crutches that told the ticket taker she needed to go in forst because she was "disabled" so they let her party go to the front of the line and enter before anyone alse. Hi gang. Well, the person I'm referring to doesn't not use a wheelchair, an ECV, a walker or even a cane. The upgraded room (better view) received is because he/she claims that for medical reasons, he/she needs ample sunlight (ie: no giant icons or trees blocking the windows) which is complete hogwash. Claims that VIP cleaning is absolutely necessary for his/her illness which it isn't, even if she/he had said medical problem.
I guess I just wish there was a way to put an end to this unecessary special treatment of someone who tells lies.
Also, just a note, this person doesn't attempt to use handicapped entrances or other forms of getting ahead in line - at least to my knowledge.
Thanks for your replies.

So she needs ample sunlight.. in a room she will be spending mostly only nights in, and vip cleaning i assume meaning full sterilization daily? Does she have tuberculosis ?
Of course, this room and service are available, but at an additional price.

We use it at Safaris to move the ECVs around on our wheelchair dock. Much easier than trying to drive them into their "parking spaces" while the rider is on Safari.;GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:I guess that is for someone to assist the person in the ECV?
