Remember the August Sale at the Boston Store?

I remember that Dr. Ross dog food commercial, but not Robert Hall. I remember commercials for a toy that apparently jumped the shark, Odd Ogg. "Odd Ogg, Odd Ogg, he's half turtle and half frog...." You were supposed to roll a ball at him; if you missed his mouth or it went in sideways, he'd back up and laugh at you, if the ball went straight into his mouth you won.
I remember the first commercials for Slip 'N' Slide, Wheel-O, Etch-A-Sketch, Playdough, Legos, Space Shoes (I see they have another version under a new name--can't think of it though), Water Wiggle, and gobs of other things. If you loved Fizzies, or Bosco chocolate syrup, the Vermont Country Store sells them. I think the funniest commercials were the ones for Milk Duds. You'd think the family was doing drugs, the way they hid to keep the neighbors from knowing they had Milk Duds. If you're too young to know what Milk Duds were, they were chocolate covered caramel balls. I think they still sell them. I also liked the Chiclets commercials. I remember there was a commercial for Jujyfruits that would come on before I think Sheriff John or some other of my favorite shows came on.

One show I enjoyed that until recently I couldn't find anything on was called Shintaro. It was about a samuri that went out in disguise on missions for his boss. It was was dubbed in English, something that took me awhile to realize. When I finally found information on it, it was from an Australian site, which said it mainly played in that part of the world. The guy running the site said it was seen in the U.S. in Hawaii, but I wrote him and said I was living in Ventura, CA when I saw it. He was impressed.

I remember when Engineer Bill was about to come on, you'd see a map of an island in the rough shape of a number 9, and the voiceover announcer was saying "Calling 9 Island, calling 9 Island...." then the Engineer Bill theme would start as the opening shot come on. Ah, memories....

[font="Palatino Linotype"]so while we're slightly off topic (nothing new there) and reminiscing does anyone else besides me remember "woggle boards"? they were sort of like a barrel stave...a slightly warped board (that was decorated) that you planted your feet on and wobbled side-to-side on? you could actually walk forward, backward or around in a circle on them...probably more than that, but elyse and i were pretty little when we had ours...i wouldn't be surprised to find out they were made by wham-o :) [/font]

We used to go to LAX all the time when I was a kid and lived in El Segundo- used to watch the planes take off from inside the airport terminal...would never happen now!
Used to go to Woody's restaurant down the street where you could make your own sundaes-think Woody's is still there! :)

You must have shopped at the Broadway! The Boston Store was in Inglewood on Imperial Blvd. There was one in Anaheim and in Rossmoor, too.
