According to Board X, apparently the line at City Hall stretches all the way back to Candy Palace. For those of you who have never visited Disneyland Park, that means it's somewhere between 2/3rds and 3/4ths of the way up Main Street USA.
Once again, those of you working City Hall today, we salute you. May whatever higher power you believe in have mercy on you :p: .
Surely they are all in line planning on submitting Kudos to the amazing staff members that ensured their safety during this unscheduled bonus attraction.

City Hall had a line from the counters to the Market House. How did everything go in your locations? I'm sure there were some SGs out there, I'm saving my best stories for later.

I was at my job at Knott's walking towards the front entrance. To the right of me was the Geode Shop and to the left was the Sutter food facility and the Wagon Camp (where the Wild West Stunt Show is held). Suddenly I felt the ground shift beneath me and heard stuff fall from the shelves at the Geode Shop. I was in an open area but I noticed a lot of guests were under trees or near buildings. I tried to yell (my voice just doesn't carry well.) for people to get away from the glass and get into the open. After the shaking stopped, I checked to see if everyone was ok. I saw a just clutching her chest but it turned out she was just really shaken. I had been headed to the stores in Camp Snoopy and the Fiesta Village so I just kept going.
All the rides were shut down and evacuated. I went by Silver Bullet and they were having to escort guests who were on one of the cars. Fortunately, they were just beginning their ride so it was an easy (in comparison to what it could have been)evac. I was stopped by many guests wondering when the rides would be back up. I didn't have a decent answer other than they had to do a through inspection.
I went back up to the front entrance to talk to a friend and saw a line forming at Infomation of guests wanting a refund. As far as I know they didn't get one. Guest Services continued to sell tickets, but potential guests were forewarned that there were no refunds even if another earthquake/aftershock hit.
A guest approached my friend and I and asked when the rides were going to open again. She wasn't pleased that we didn't have that magic answer and went on to complain that it would be today that the earthquake would hit when they visited the park. Her husband wanted to leave. And after such a nice day at the beach yesterday. Uh, what makes you think it couldn't happen at the beach? If it had happened on a fault line that ran through the ocean then the SG may have experienced a lovely tsunami. :D: (Don't kill me if this info is not exactly accurate. Geology is not one of my strongest suits)
All the rides re-opened by 1 pm except for the Log Ride. I don't know if it was already down or if it opened later. The Log Ride suffered a collapse in one of the caves last year so they were probably taking no chances.
The afternoon went on as normal. As far as I know there was no major damage at Knott's Some of the stores in the Marketplace had broken merchandise. And other than rattled nerves, no major injuries/illnesses from the quake. Which is the best news of all. :)

It doesn't necessarily take a sub surface fault line to cause a tsunami. I believe it was an earthquake centered well inland in Alaska back in the '60s that caused a tsunami that pretty much wiped out Crescent City in Northern California.
Here in Hawaii we have tsunami alert sirens because of the high possibility of one any time there's a quake anywhere in the Pacific. The rule of thumb is if the ocean suddenly recedes, don't go looking for fish that are left high and dry. Haul ass for higher ground NOW!!
Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

I knew this. Somehow just deducted "The Stupids" would go to City Hall & complain.

Sorry Guest J. What a pain!! But from City Hall to Market? That's hella long line. You just can't fix stupid. So glad I was off. Bed began to shake then lamp went back & forth for what seemed like 2 or 3 min. Lamp finally was still so I stayed in bed. No reason to get up, as I did close last night. Have lived in SO CAL all my life but this was the longest shake I can recall. An after shock may have caused me to get up. ;) Security CM called to check on me & said he finally met all his neighbors as they ran out today & waited in the courtyard. He almost forgot his pants & had to ho back. HA! Heck of a way to meet neighbors he said. :D: He's not from CA. so this was a big deal.

I was off today (for that matter, I am off for the next 6 weeks due to knee surgery), so I was not at the park. I can tell you that I spoke to friends that worked there, and they all said it was NUTS!!
One of them works as a ticket taker and was on her way to a break when the quake hit--she was just at the entrance to the tunnel under the train--she said that by the time she hit the Main St side of the tunnel, there were so many cm's on main street assisting guests that she didn't know where they all came from!! They had ONE gate open for entrances, but at the rest of them were giving re-admission stamps and at least one manager was out there stamping hands, too!!
Guest Services was giving refunds, I know, too.
The most telling thing about the earthquake that I saw/heard on TV??
The abc reporter that was at the park when the quake hit talked about how the CM's were so helpful and professional and how well they handled the "emergency" and he went on and on about how the cm's were fantastic with the guests.
One of my first things I said after the quake stopped was when I told my hubby, "I'm so glad I'm not at work!! I bet every ride was e-stopped and evac'd, and the guests are gonna be PISSED!!!!!!!!!" After I put that in english for the hubby, he started laughing and told me I needed to get a life. LOL

Perhaps I don't get it, but this truly astonishes me. Why is there a line that long? Yes I get it that this people are on vacation. But... have we truly gotten to the point where we need to complaint for something that is neither Disney's fault or have any control over it?
Can someone please shed some info into what they were complaining about? In the name of all that is holly there was an earthquake people!!! You think that the first idea would be to make sure that everything was working properly, you know safety. Off course not!!!! All that I bet some saw was an opportunity to get something out of Disney. I bet one of the complaints was that there was nothing to do. Grrr....
I'm almost ready to give up in thinking that there is still out there people that still have some reason with them. In the past few weeks I have been loosing what little faith in humanity I had. SG lately have been honestly horrible but this takes the cake. Kudos to you all for remaining professional in the middle of what I know must have been a very scary situation.

The media really blew the quake out of propportion on all the newschannels. They made it sould like California was shaking apart! I hate when they do that. Having been born and raised in California, a little or medium sized shaker is common. The truly big ones are/were devastating, but I hate how the talking heads use these quakes to start all their yammering about "the big one" that is on the way.
I am so sorry for all you CMs that had to deal with stupid CMs asking when the rides would be up.
That was funny how the woman was complaining about how the beach was so nice and now this! An earthquake at DL.
Sorry madam, but Mother Nature does not give a fuck about your vacation plans and timing. So sorry! Nothing Disney can do about the quake. I would bet that at least one SG asked a CM to make it stop. I would bet on it.

The late news said Pamela Anderson got two black eyes.
