Actually, I -can- carry a tune. I was lucky enough to perform in the Candlelight Processional during my CP days.

Whether or not I'm Hollywood material is up to the judges. I'm mostly doing this for the story.

Most probable audition outcome: Just good enough to avoid being on the "Worst Auditioners" reels those first couple weeks of the season, but not quite good enough for a golden ticket.
Good luck and pixie dust, Tara!!

FYI, according second-hand info from those who have been through the process, there are two levels of singing before producers and assistants before you can get through to the Big Three -- and they weed out the mediocre and even good singers. The only ones that get passed along fall into one or more of three categories:

(1) Incredible voice;
(2) Horrible voice (especially those who don't realize how bad they are); and/or
(3) Interesting story.

I've heard things along those lines too. The people who come in with the attitude of "I might be a good singer" don't get on TV. Unfortunately in more recent seasons they have even passed on showing the auditions of people who get the golden tickets in favor of showing truly horrible singers. That's why I don't watch the audition episodes anymore.

+1 on the process.. while the TV show makes it look like Randy Simon and Paula are there in the room when you do your audition, that point is usually three to 4 weeks away..

You do our audition in front of an Intern, then they advance you or don't.
Then you do an audition in front of a senior associate, and they advance you or don't.
The third time is in front of producers.. who then advance you to RSP.

It pains me to think that the really bad people on the show have had their egos stroked and confidence built up through that process, only to be made fun of in the final cut. so sad..

but it makes GREAT T.V.

A couple years back , there was a whole show based on making a group of really horrible singers think they were about to win an Idol-style show. I forget the name, but it was really cruel to watch, because it kept stringing them along until the last episode where they finally told the "winner" why she was actually there.

Personally, I prefer the series Bathroom Divas on the Ovation channel that turn shower belters into would be Operetic stars.

AI is a great though. I adored David Archuleta from last season and I had met Sayesha Mercado before she had gotten to that level of fame. It was so awesome when they had Andrew Lloyd Webber on the show.

One thing I always warn about people who go to such things is to develop a thick skin. If you are lucky enough to make it past Randy, Paula, and Simon - be prepared for a lot of extra hard work and criticism. Lots of people go yippie skippy into such things thinking it would be a fun celebrity life. If one can't take criticism from music coaches (who are only trying to help) and what not, it will hit a lot harder when you get it when you really do make it.
