I know Universal is hurting when they do the "buy a day, get 2008 free" special for the last 6 months, but dang, why do these people think that because Universal is doing it, Disneyland is, too???
Is that who you were on the phone with when I came by today? ;)
Good to finally meet Pattimelt! :)
I saw the fire on the way to Disneyland today :(
Very sad to hear of Movie History being gone.

I wonder how many SG's saw the fire and thought it was part of Backdraft :/

We just got a memo on the fire. According to UO's information, the New York scene and Kong were a total loss, but the courthouse on Courthouse Square (the BTTF courthouse) and half the buildings facing the square were saved. All of the areas affected were in backlot areas not normally visited by guests except on the tram tour.
Part of the problem with guests being upset about the park not opening yesterday was due to a problem with communication. Since the affected areas were "backstage" the park was telling guests that they would be opening "soon" so guests waited. They were then told they would open at noon, so guests waited that long. Then guests were told to come back at 1:00ish. When they came back later, they were told that the park wouldn't open. I suspect that's why some guests were irate over something the park had no control over. I suspect that others were just out to take advantage of the situation to get "compensation" for something they weren't entitled to.

I did hear on the news that part of the fire was fueled by propane tanks exploding.
To be honest, it's not all that suprising that this happened. That tour has a ton of firey special effects. It just takes one malfunctioning device or an overlooked maintenance thing for a fire to start.
Too bad that king kong is gone and all those films and reels (good thing they have backups!), but it's so great no one was hurt.

Truth: There are no sewers below Disneyland, and therefore no alligators in them. The secret tunnels are infested with mutant rats, however.

I would have thought Backdraft exploded, lol but it turns out that monkey farts caused a build up of gasses in New York City and thus King Kong died due to his farts.

The latest news says the fire was started by employees using a torch on a asphalt roof. They examined it for fire and went on break. When they got back a security guard had just called the fire in.

Miceage has a picture of the insides of the facades. Just dry plywood. Not surprising the fire spread so fast.

Thanks for the info on the courthouse. The photos that were in the L.A.Times and on the net of Courthouse Square were not all that clear.
