He actually did manage to go last night without that kind of accident. Maybe I shoudl have posted on here sooner. :) Of course, he did do something else in his crate, uck.

Just like everyone else has said. We made the crate small enough just for the dog to turn around and lay down. We also took the puppy out a couple times a night. Good luck with your fur babies.

I would recommend Ceasar Millian's books and his website. Google it. (I can't remember the web address-sorry!) He has some excellent ideas on dog(and owner) training and behavior. I love watching the Dog Whisperer show on the National Geographic channel.
My guess on your dog's ear problem is that perhaps he has an excess of ear wax. Does your dog have long ears? Perhaps all that is needed is to gently clean the ears on a daily basis.

No, he has cute short perky ears! The other one has long ears, but they are the cleanest ears I have ever seen, and I don't even ahve to do anything! They are quite the dynamic duo.

One of my sisters has a Mexican Hairless, the large size, and she has him trained to use a puppy pad, even though he's an adult. She has to take him everywhere with her just about--the dog was traumatized and has to be with her.
But perhaps the housebreaking pads would work? Also, try [url]http://www.dogchannel.com;[/url] I use the cat version, but folks on those boards may be able to help.

I tried several different kinds of puppy pads, but he shreds the hell out of them and it's an incredible mess. At least with the blankets I can just toss them in the wash and they don't get shredded to pieces.

There is a rewashable puppy pad that he can't shred (it's like a blanket but plastic lined). I agree with acourtwdw - you may have to set an alarm and take him out a few times per night for awhile. It sounds like he really can't hold it all night. Ah, the joys of parenthood.

Sounds like he has a LOT of agression that needs to be taken care of. We got our guys the nylabones, and they attack them every night before bed time! I think it tires them out a bit.

He has a couple of rawhide bones, a nylabone, and a puppy Kong that he loves. He's just an energetic little monkey. Like I said, he has the stubborness of a dachshund with the hyperactivity of a Jack Russell, but he realy is quite loving (when he's not driving me up the wall). I am trying to find more toys to rotate. The problem is that any toys have to be pretty solid or the two of them will tear them apart. Kongs work well, nylabones seem to be good too. I tried Orkas but Eragon (the bigger one) was able to destroy it. The same goes for stuffed animals. Matthias has a little hippo he loves that stays in his crate with him since he is not to the point of ripping the squeakers out yet.

It works even better when you soak the Nylabones in Rum! ;)
