Maybe, but my bones and skin would hate me.
It's not eight miles of surface streets. After the first half mile, it's all freeway or Disney roads with no sidewalks, no bike lakes, and way too many crazy drivers.
I quite agree that my heart would benefit from the exercise, but it's simply not a safe thing to do.
And no, there isn't a good option to avoid the freeway. Shortest alternate route is 18 miles, and that *is* a bit more than I'm up to twice in one day! :pig1:

I can drive about 1 mile to the 5 freeway for a total of about 13 miles each way. It takes two hours to get to Disneyland from my house and there is a 1.7 block walk to the bus stop. And you get to stop at Knotts first. This is half of the Disneyland to Los Angeles route that takes a total of 4 hours approximately.
Ride a bike and peel the fat lady of the lawn and take her to the ER and hurry.

What Zazu didn't mention, all the on site and most of the local roads around WDW are pavement to the edge of the traffic lane, little or no sholder and then fine sand. I tried riding my off road bicycle in some of that sand and got nowhere. The sand is so fine that the wheels immediately sink until the wheel is burried slightly more than the diameter of the off road knobby tire into the sand. The result is about as much fun as a simple stroll in a quicksand bog. Even walking in this sand is exhausting. So bikes are pretty much restricted to the few, scattered, and disconnected bike paths, exercise trails and individual resort internal roadways (where traffic may be low enough to make a bike ride less suicidal).

I'd rather take the fat lady and some $$$ to Buildabear, and we can have some immature fun stuffing a critter instead of shooting or burning or cutting ears off.

:p: :D: We'll figure out a Buildabear that's not on Property... Hmmm There's one in Hollywood and one in LA too. WHEE!
As for Bike riding- Once had a friend take me for a ride around a block on his bike. I had no helmet on but it was scary so I held on to him tightly. Don't know if he caught his breath afterwards...

Just a heads up, my reservation, and thus, my Meet n' Greet at the Yak and Yeti has been cancelled. I'll still be at AK that morning, but, in memory of Randy, I'll be riding the length of the WDW Monorail System in the afternoon - it just seems like a fitting tribute given his love for monorails. If anyone would like to join me for that, PM me and we'll meet up.
Anyway, I'm packing right now, and I just need to ask, what's the weather like in Orlando at the moment. Is it as humid as it was when I went back in January - I believe I used the term "Singapore in July" to describe it.
Looking at the forecast, I see that there are a fairly large number of thunderstorms forecasted for that week. I'm curious, what is park policy towards thunderstorms. They're a rare occurence out here in the west, and I've never had to work during one, so I'm clueless in this aspect.
Finally, to end my wild bouncing around, I found a (possible) SGT, even before I set foot on an airplane.
I borrowed "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2008" from my local library, and have been flipping thru it trying to get some advice. Oddly enough, I found this number: (407) 824-2222 under a section of tips on how to find out where the characters are.
I don't know about WDW, but at the DLR, those kinds of numbers are CM-only, we're not supposed to give them out to guests. Makes you wonder, eh?

The humidity isn't (always) that high, but it's been stinking hot, hitting 80F by 10am. Carry water bottles and use them!

When electrical storms get too close, outdoor attractions are closed until they clear out. This can be a major pain, so hit the outdoor stuff in the mornings.
Actual thunderstorms -- with rain et al -- aren't as common as the weather reports suggest. When a forecast in Florida says "50% chance of rain" it means that half the ground will get wet at some time during the day. Usually such partial forecasts are for relatively small, fast moving storms. Yeah, we can also get our frog-floaters that last all day and into the night, but they're relatively rare.
If it does rain, just go to the nearest retail register and pick up ponchos (unless you were smart enough to hit a Dollar Store and bring your own). There will be a mass exodus of the Evil Witches who are terrified of getting wet, then you'll be able to enjoy the park with only half the usual crowd.

That number is the general WDW information number. The Chip Hotline for character tracking is a restricted number, and didn't make it into that book.

And I'm home :) .
I had a great trip to WDW, and got to meet a large amount of SGT-ers.
Just wanted to say thanks to the WDW cast who made my trip so special. I'm hoping to come back soon, and maybe not to visit ;) ......
