I would love to see it expanded. I think they should do what a friend told me Las Vegas did... I don't know if it's true, but he's from Vegas, and he's an honest person, so if he's lying to me, it's because he's mistaken.

As many of you know, the Vegas monorail is the old Mark IV's from WDW. That means they had to get the track for the old Mark IV's. What did they do? They started a factory and produced it themselves, thus eliminating much of that cost.

Even if the story isn't accurate, I do wish Disney would do that, as I believe they could build the track for much less than what they were quoted.

Again, if I am wrong, please don't hold back. There's a good chance I am, since I *am* going on hearsay.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Sorry Zazu. This was told to me by a either a bus driver on the way to Studios or a tram driver in the studios lot.

Got to be careful about what the bus drivers tell you. Everything I have read about those black squares is that they are decorations, typical of the designer's work. Besides, if those squares were for onrails, why in the wolrd would the put rooms there if they planned on taking them out? Doesn't make sense. A lot of what you hear at the world is rumor or urban ledgend.

Bombardier Transportation developed the Vegas monorail using the same technology from WDW, since it was well tested. Vegas uses nine Bombardier MVI fully automated monorails.

I realize that much of what you hear is rumor or urban legend, in fact, I'm constantly telling people not to believe all the rumors. However, this one sounded plausible to me.

I also acknoweldge that it makes no sense to put in rooms to take them out, but that is not how it was told to me. The way it was told to me is that they were originally built with the hollow space for the monorail and it was after the Swan and Dolphin were built that the plan was scrapped and they were filled in with rooms. I do wish that CMs would verify information before passing it on to the guest. I just assumed that if he was saying it over the intercom he had been given the information from a reliable source and would not be steering the guests wrong.

I do too, wish that cast members would get the facts before telling people things. You won't believe how many people believe that Walt Disney is one of the busts in the Haunted Mansion (another myth) or that he is frozen somewhere (yest another myth). So all of you cast members, this telling guests silly myths, do the qualify as Stupid Cast Meber tricks?

When you have a corporation that is famous for keeping information "close to the vest" and not telling anyone anything (and frequently changing their minds several times after the "official" info is released, rumor runs wild. With 10,000+ people who speculate and spread rumors that flow around the property several times. When someone hears the same (or similar) rumors from many different people it tends to take on a venier of "truth".

Also it is very easy to put two and two together and still get the wrong answer. Consider this. One person looking at the swolphin and seeing the black squares begins to speculate. Prior to that they heard that there were plans to expand the monorails to include the studios (which were under construction about the time the swolphin was being built). Also the fact that all the resorts, with the exception of the golf resort (now called Shades of Green) and Ft Wilderness campground, had a monorail station attached to it, or running through it. Put these facts together and it makes some kind of sense that an internal station could be in the plans. It wouldn't take long before such a speculation began to make the rounds. If you hear a somewhat plausable story often enough, from many different sources, you may begin to believe it. Even if the story is totally speculation and just plain wrong.

I really have to make a search for the photo I took of the aerial photo map that used to be posted at Epcot that shows the proposed monorail expansion to the studios. If I remember it right the plan (at that time) was for the train to generally follow the Epcot Resort Drive with a station about where Fantasia Mini Golf is now. If I ever find the photos (I took full size images and some close ups of some areas) I'll scan them and post them.

(begins chanting to himself: Remember to find mono plan photo.)

Randy

It's 60,000+ CMs to spread rumors around, so you know they are rampant. My "favorites":

-Disney only pays CPs $.75 an hour and either Coke or the government make it up. (Why would Coke pay Disney workers? Some people say it's the government because it is an internship, but again, internships are not even required to pay at all)

-Coke supplies all the beverages on property for free so anything we sell is pure profit. (Again, why? They are a business, that would be stupid)

-Mrs. Eisner owns all of the Disney resorts

-They are building a theme park here in the midwest in Iowa or Branson. (To be fair, somebody is buying lots of property in Branson. At my school's career fair a woman from a company there approached me and asked me about this. The rumor is whoever is buying the land is Disney).

-Somebody got decapitated on Space Mountain (the ride would never pass inspection if the beams were that close, and it would have definitely been shut down.)

-It is company policy that nobody is ever declared dead on property so we can legally say that nobody has died on property.

And so on and so forth.

My favorite myth is that a guest died of fright in the Haunted Mansion.

Legend: Alligators dwell in the sewers beneath Disneyland.

Truth: There are no sewers below Disneyland, and therefore no alligators in them. The secret tunnels are infested with mutant rats, however.
