Be good to your Park Workers.
Re: Be good to your Park Workers.
Just a few to add of my own experiences...
1) Scream at appropiate time and places. If you're going down splash mountain, fine. But do not scream like there is a serial killer after you when you're going at half the speed of smell on the pinnochio ride!!
2) Stay behind the damn line! Gah ive had multiple heart attacks when i see idiot people cross that line and look at me like a deer at headlights when i tell them to step back
3) If you can't do math, you should not be driving. When someone asks you how many people are in your party, and you have to use your fingers to count, you should surrender your drivers license imediatlly because only complete morons are that bad at math
4) and while we're on that here's an additive to that one; Lose some F****** weight for god sakes! It really made me laugh when fat people who were a slim 400 lbs caused the ride to back up and shut down and got mad at us screaming that the cars are too small, but under my breath i always replied that our ride cars were not designed for people of jurassic proportions
5) they are ropes, not hurdles. i always had the pleasure of hunting down SG's like a bounty hunter when they thought they were slick and could jump onto the grass at Mansion and use that as a shortcut. I actually saw a dumbass teenager try to jump over a rope, trip, fall on his face and chipped a few teeth. There were guests standing next to me when i said "and thats why they're not hurdles."

Re: Be good to your Park Workers.
#3 was an exception for me as well. I enjoy telling people about my job. I did have some snot-nose cheerleader come up to me while I was tasking (I was sweeping outside) and was like "Do you, like, like your, like, job? I mean you, like, pick up, like, trash all day..." I told her, I do enjoy all parts of my job, thanks for asking.
As for telling what's wrong we usually do get told what it is. But we don't ever explain a Signal 25 (fire/alarm), that is ALWAYS Technical Difficulties. If they push me on a 101 I will sometimes be like "We are having an issue with a sensor. Check the tip board for updates on our status."
When Soarin' dumps the queue it is UTTER CHAOS! People are angry, berating the poor greeters, then they berate us at the Land, assuming we are somehow associated with them. Often times we don't find out the causes of other 101s except from a manager or through the grapevine.

Re: Be good to your Park Workers.
I also don't agree with #3, I love my job and when somebody asks me I'll tell them so.
About #8, there is only one Mickey, one Minnie, one whoever. They may all have a number of best friends but there is only one of them. Have you ever seen two Mickeys at one time? No, that's because there's only one of him.
My biggest peeve right now are children who seem to think that the ropes for the Photopass queue are swings and their parents who do nothing to stop them. I can understand kids not knowing better but the parents should. That doesn't stop me from having to get kids off the ropes every so often, had to do it today and I was only in Expo Hall a little while. I don't tell them that to be mean, I tell them that so the rope doesn't break and they fall to the hard floor. The ropes are standard queue ropes you see anywhere, they are not designed to hold the weight of a kid. The only difference is that the poles go into the floor (like most WDW ropes, especially the permanent ones and most parade ones) instead of having a weighted base. This might make them more stable but doesn't make the rope stronger.
Last week a kid stood up on the rail behind the Tipboard cart and held on to the big post at the end. In my mind, it is obvious that you don't stand on a railing that is no more than an inch wide. Naturally I told him to get down.
The other day I was by the Rose Garden talking to a Photopass CM I know in between his guests. Well, this man stands his kid up on the big post of the railing to see the parade (instead of doing the smart thing of moving closer to the street). I told the dad that putting his kid up there wasn't a good idea (I wasn't in costume so couldn't tell him to not do that in no uncertain terms) and he replied that it was okay. Once the CM was done with his guests he saw the kid and dad and told the dad to get his kid down. He does and they move on elsewhere.
It is never okay to stand your kid up on a concrete post with a sloped top (with only a small area to stand anyway because of the big ball that's a part of the post) that's a good 4 feet or so off the ground or to stand on a narrow rail that's nearly 3 feet or so off the ground. It is way to easy to fall from there and crack your head open from hitting either the steel rail, concrete post or concrete sidewalk.
I tell guests these things not to be mean or rude I tell them so they or their children don't get hurt. I don't want to see anybody get hurt, especially if I could have done something to prevent it (such as tell them not to do whatever).

Well, sadly, thats the ol' Darwin Award kickking in for the parent! Trouble is, the kid will get hurt. I would hope that when it happens, as some place security or the CM puts it in a report that the parent was the proximal cause for being stoopid!

Re: Be good to your Park Workers.
I have been known to grab the rope and jerk it really hard when I see a SG kid swinging on them. Not only is it unsafe, but I an standing there next to it and don't want it slapping my legs over and over. And for the rails in some lines. I think they should have little spikes on the tops so people won't sit on them. It' snot a bench, it's a rail. if your that tired, get our of line and go sit down. One time We were in line at 6 flags and we kept passing this annoying girl that would hop up on the rail and kick her feet making it vibrate. So as we met in line she hopped up there and I turned around with my back to her and leaned against the rail from the other side and used my back to just push her right off. The guy she was with started running his mouth about how I should watch what I was doing. I said. "Oh I'm sorry I was just leaning against this RAIL, but if she needs to sit down, I'm sure there is a bench outside somewhere." they were not too happy, but she stayed off the rail.Shorty82 wrote:My biggest peeve right now are children who seem to think that the ropes... are swings and their parents who do nothing to stop them.

It's been a while since I've popped in here, but I have a little one to add...
Please don't try to push me under the ride just because I told you that I couldn't stop it so that you can "jump in" and get the $2 water bottle you dropped somewhere in it. Especially when it is close to park closing and I said that I would be happy to get it for you as soon as I was able to.

Re: Be good to your Park Workers.
There's a reason we don't go into any more details than "technical difficulties" when a ride shuts down. Even if we do know what the problem is, we don't know how long it will take to fix. Either we tell you it's a small problem and shouldn't be too long, then it takes awhile and you get mad, or we tell you it will take awhile and to check back later and the minute you walk away we reopen and you get mad when you come back and find out. Either way, you get mad and we get yelled at. The truth is, we can't tell you what's wrong because it is really none of your concern. You owe it to us to put some faith in our desire to keep you safe by closing rides when we need to and only reopening them when it's safe to do so. We really don't want you to waste your day hanging around to see how long a repair will take. We want you to go out and have fun somewhere else, then come back later. Imagine going to the grocery store and looking for a particular brand of cereal. You find they're out of it. They tell you they'll be getting more in soon. Do you stand in the aisle and wait, or do you try another brand, or check back another day or try another store if that's the only brand you'll eat?

You should just tell them a run-a-way woozle tripped a safety interlock, and you are trying to track it down!
And then nod knowlingly!!

GP: You should work at Winnie the Pooh! That ride has frequent issues and in the past we have blamed it on various things including: Heffalumps and Woozles stealing the panel buttons and Tigger succeeding to bounce out of the ride. The Tigger one is my personal favorite. I often tell that one to the kids and then tell them if they see him to tell him to come back. Of course, this was before Pooh's Playground. I have a feeling it works better when he is in Toontown as opposed to directly across the street.

Re: Be good to your Park Workers.
that would be fun, except that I don't think I would make a good CM. Youse guys seem to mostly deal with the SG's! I am afarid I would have to bounce one up and down the first time I saw them making the kids cry or otherwise being sg's!EeyoresButterfly wrote:GP: You should work at Winnie the Pooh!
