Sarah Magdalene wrote:I don't get how people can be so upset over a video game. One of my friends had quit college so she can play her World Of Warcraft game more often! Not just that, she even visited some guys from her WOW "guild" in another state, hooked up with one of them, broke up and then dated his ex-wife. And don't get me started on the young guy who actually committed suicide after his Everquest character perished. Then again, that's one link in the human gene chain we really don't need reproducing anyway! (then again, he probably had no real life in the first place due to isolation in his basement - no chance in meeting women, dating etc)

I tried the VMK thing, found it very boring, hard to earn points, and over all very frustrating.
My brother is very heavy into WOW and I can't get the fascination. I can understand enjoying a game and wanting to play it over and over again, but not when you schedule your basic needs (sleeping, eating, etc.) around it.
On the subject of virtual games for kids (and plush-obsessed adults), I found the Webkinz site to be very engaging and safe. Yes you have to buy Webkinz plush to enjoy the site, but its under tight control from the company (Ganz).
You don't need to add an e-mail address (at least not when I joined) and that's what I like the most about it. You also don't need to buy a lot of plush-one will get you into the games. There are chat rooms ,but you don't have to be part of them to enjoy the Webkinz site.
The only thing I didn't like about the site was the Charm Forest. In order to lock the entire forest, you had to buy over 24 charms or something like that. I bought four and every time I went there I got stuck with something worthless and was locked out until the next day. Ripoff!
I don't play on the Webkinz site anymore. I have wayyy to much to do in real life. Still, it was a nice diversion.

My cousin almost went to divorce court over WOW - hubby no longer plays at all. My boys ( 5 and 6) like Webkinz - but I've been having problems logging them in. We did finally bite the bullet and sign up for Disney's Game Kingdom. Their older sister (18) likes VMK, but has suffered many of the same frustrations detailed in earlier posts. She's sad to see it go, but it's not a life-altering event.

WOW i swear is half evil. I suppose that it can be fun to an extent, but to actually alter your entire life around it is going way too far. Hopefully no one will be jumping off cliffs or in front of cars since VMK is saying tood-a-loo. I just never been a gamer girl at all, I tried though - just to give benefit of doubt. Didn't appeal to me. I even tried some popular virtual pets thing and I still got very bored with it.

I been there and tried, so I can say it really does not suck me in and change my life. I can also easily survive without it. One really has to have a lot of time and patience to commit to some of those games to advance to other things.

I guess Disney wanted to possibly eliminate any lawsuits from people becoming so engrossed into a online game (VMK) that they did something terrible in real life?

Besides, VMK would take away the time that you could be posting HERE!!!

Well, I know that I plan my work, eating, sleeping and leisure time around posting on SGT!

Well at least you work, Matterhorn. Some gamers don't even do that! After all, you'd need to work in order to be a poster here.

10-9 that

I would never join the clone site.

A dear friend whom I wrote to was VMK Babs whom I miss so much. That woman loved kids and did everything she could to protect kids at VMK. The staff worked hard to protect the kids.

I could not go to a clone site as Disney was safe and no matter how fucked up it can be there will alway be that security. In parks are the cops and paramedics, on line are moderators.

so tired today and so upset over my friends being gone.

My daughter does the webkinz thing. It has no appeal to me at all as an adult like VMK did.

I know people who are those 'can't eat can't sleep, can't work, gaming!' sorts and it is really sad. They become so obsessed with it that they just. . .get lost in it.

I just can't believe how badly VMK is messing up even the last weeks. They keep posting Yavn messages then changing them. Come on! Pick a story and stick with it LOL. At this point it counts as a Stupid Virtual Employee trick.

They insist on leaving some items rare instead of just releasing everything so that all the little kids can have what they wanted the whole time. I'm going to have fun giving my rare away in the days to come to people who may have wanted it and never gotten it- especially kids of players I know. Some people were very generous with my daughter in the game over the past two years- and I want the kids to enjoy it as much as possible.

I tried my best to be a good VMK citizen, if I had a penny for every time I either reported someone for mistreating another- swearing around the filters, giving out personal info or asking for it, etc. . . but there weren't enough people to help staff keep it clean. They needed more staff or more in game moderators and they should have removed the ability for players to talk in the POTC game entirely. It was not necessary and where I saw most of the worst infractions happen.

It'll be over soon- people are trying to save it but it looks like Disney is having no part of it. The way it has gone downhill- I have to say that I'm a little sad to see it go- but we had already decided after the quest that we were done with VMK as a family anyway.

Now it's just fun giving stuff away :)

I agree Pirate, We will be talking about starting SGT Anonymous Someday! :D:
WOW has caused at least one marriage I know of to suffer, and my youngest son would get it in a heartbeat if we had high speed connection
Like he needs more distraction from his studies.

Could be. I have had to deal with several people that are so engaged in on-line gaming that their interpersonal communication skills are .."lacking" to the point that they almost cannot talk with a live person. And these are mid 20's aged people.

I guess its like a fine wine, good RUM, or a beautiful women, ....All in moderation and you will have a more enriched (and stress free) life. (heheheheheeeeee!!)
