Oh, here's another story I just remembered!

A CM called Jeff 'did it for our family'- when he was working at the front desk at CR the week of Christmas 1999, and my daughter was turning four that week.

We were checking in for our Garden wing room- and she kept begging to see what was going on- I picked her up and hoisted her onto my hip and she grinned at Jeff and said "Hello!" and he laughed, and said "Hello!" She pointed to his Playhouse Disney button (it was a brand new attraction) and said to me "Mumma, take you there? See Bearinnabigbluehouse? (all one word) Please, take you there?" and I said, yes we will go see Bear tomorrow.

Jeff asked how old she was, and she said "I gonna be four in free days!" and he asked me, "really?" and I said, "Yes" and told him her birthdate.

He smiled at me, hit a few keys on the computer and exclaimed, "Well look at that! I don't know how that happened. Your garden wing room just turned into a 9th floor tower room. Have a magical birthday, princess!"

He neglected to mention it was an MK view, tower room. Christmas week. The upgrade was ENORMOUS.

And then. . .as if it wasn't enough- on her actual birthday, he showed up at our door with a balloon bouquet and stuffed Mickey and autograph book for her. We got him a little medal of honor with his name on it from the Studios before we came home.

Wherever you are now, Jeff, thank you. Her birthday was magical, and we still talk about it. We won't ever forget you, or your kindness.

It was magic.
What a GREAT story! Yes, the CMs indeed make things magical. We've had a lot of wonderful encounters with them, too.

For the children whose last wish is to go to Walt Disney World Resort and to meet Mickey Mouse.
These are the ones that hits me the hardest. Every time I think about them. They are my favorite kids and families for whom to make Magic. I love doing it for everyone else, but nothing compared to the MaW and GKTW kids.

I need to go scoop ice cream.

I try to make magic for guests at Plaza Inn if I have the time to, by talking to them, finding out where they're from... If I find out someone can't carry a heavy tray or are alone with a group of kids that need help carrying trays I'll help.
I'll get a milk, juice, water, or soda for a kid having trouble with reaching to get their desired beverage.

I'll try and greet deaf guests in sign, if I see someone signing to them, or someone tells me that a guest is deaf.

I'll try to say some words in a foreign language, be it Aussie slang to Australians, greetings in Japanese, or French or Spanish or even my smattering of German . If a guest speaking spanish says he or she is from Spain I change some word to sound like theirs instead of like the spanish I learned in HS- that is Mexican accented... The Mexicans say "S" and the Spaniard says "TH" for s. When I greet a German I basically say "Good morning, Welcome, I don't speak german" and the guest may laugh at me.

I do what I do, if I can get a smile out of the parents and the children... I call the boys Prince, and the girls Princess. Some smile when I curtsy to the little girls showing off their just bought (Varied) Princess dresses.

Sometimes I think I make the days of those in costume that are there at the Minnie and Friends' character breakfast if I am passing them by saying something to the characters. One girl today told me that she told Captain Hook that she was going to call the crocodile.

Personally, I do not need lists or written inspiration to keep me doing my job as a CM. Every day is a new one to make some one's day great. My motivation is what I do that day, who I can make happy that day. On a regular basis I have that inspiration, right in front of me. If I can make at least one person's day great, that's all it takes. Maybe I'm just too easy to please, but I work because it makes me happy to make others smile. True, that list has many heartfelt reasons - but I do it for the unseen people as well.

As a very close friend of characters, I know that I do get some extra praise and attention that I otherwise may not get if I wasn't. But I do my best in my work because I LOVE it. Minnie curtsies to her little princess friends, but she also gives huge hugs and kisses to her teenage brother hanging back behind the parents. Stitch loves it when the boy with a Stitch shirt, Stitch hat, a lanyard of Stitch pins comes running up to him - but he also wants to plant a sloppy alien kiss onto Grandma who is taking the pictures from her EVC.

Big brother prince may be red as heck in embarrassment by being "hit on" by a Mouse - Granny Stitch lover probably didn't need that sloppy kiss. But you know what? A famous character took time out from their day to pay attention to them, to make sure they were not overlooked, to show that they too were worth time. Everyone needs that.

So the obvious reasons for being a CM are there. But I also want to dedicate myself to those who may not even think they deserve that extra kindness.

Whenever we go, I always point out to CMs that "It is your job to make magic for us!" Just when they probably are thinking what an A-hole I am, I smile and add "And it is OUR job to make magic for YOU too!" That always brings a smile to their faces. Then I give them a hug!

I love the CMs. I will go out of my way to say hi and smile and give a hug if someone, a CM, looks like they need one. :hugging:

And now that I found my Cast Appreciation cards, I go crazy with them! And those fun stickers that hobie made, *Hero Cast Member*. EVERY CM I gave them to, LOVED them and was so happy to get them.

I can never do enough for the CMs for what they give us. If only there was a way for me to thank them all the way they should be thanked. So I say, THANK YOU, every one of you! You are all the most special people on the planet to make it your daily job to make magic for others! :D:

I have never thought I deserved it or felt I was entitled to any special attention from CM's or Disney in general- especially not because of my disabilities- maybe that's why they have offered those extra kindnesses so freely.

Cheers to you Sarah and all the friends of characters out there!

Oh why thank you, Feb! We do what we do cause we love people like you.

Basically, it comes down to this with me and my Character friends - If you ain't expecting it, you're gonna get it!

I saw in a thread at Board X, people have ASKED for Magical Moments! I was like WTF?! The reason Magical Moments are Magical is cause they were unexpected! They try to give out tips and hints on how to be a target for Year of a Million Dreams giveaways - which I learned is all random and no one is "targeted" because they all wear the same shirts or all wearing mickey ears.

One person even said they were going to teach their kids to faint on rides, after they had seen a young boy get ill at Mad Tea Party and then have the Tweedles sit with him as he recovered on a bench nearby with a complimentary soda.

What a "Magical Moment" indeed!
