Stupid Guest Tricks

I feel your pain Rachel. During my first CP, I had so many people flip out when I had to ask for ID because they had not signed their cards.

Also, I had one memorable Wishes incident. I was working in Tinkerbell's Treasures, and we have to close an hour before Wishes so the techs can get ready. Anyway, there was a group of teens (I believe cheerleaders) and chaperones. They were taking their sweet time, just waltzing around the shop, just looking (they knew we were trying to empty out the shop). Finally they all finished up, and left the shop. I had a feeling that the techs were going to kill us (they certainly did not look very happy)

That is weird. I get yelled at about half the time when I ask for ID with an unsigned card. Then they yell even louder when I tell them they have to sign it before I'll accept it.

A few even ask for the nearest ATM and walk off. Yeah, like they'll get enough cash out to pay for a week at a Disney resort!

I've also never had a guest get upset about this, usually they thank me. I even had one today who was quite enthusiastic over how many Cast Members had asked for her ID. I've never asked them to sign the card in front of me. I was under the impression the signature wasn't valid if you saw them make it; plus none of the pens we have at our location will write on a credit card. In fact, it's been my experience that it's almost impossible to find a pen anywhere that will write on a credit card. The last time I got a new debit card, I had to buy six or seven different brands of pens before I found one that would write on the card's signature strip at all, and it was so light you can barely read it.

The only thing that will help my card at this point is a permenant marker and even that doesnt stay more then a month. Plus it rubs off in my purse--and then I have that whole "permenant" problem to deal with.

Sigh, the only alternative I have is not to use it as much. LOL

We use "Sharpie ultra fine point" at work to sign plastic cases that we have to seal over, and the sharpie works great on plastic, just let it dry for a bit. I use them on my CC's and they work great. the ultra fine point is small enough that you can get a good signature without it looking like you did it with a crayon!

plus you can get different colors!

I have one of those I will have to try it. Yeah the big clunky sig is another reason why I dont like to use a sharpie but I never thot to use the fine point one. LOL...I have a flourish instead of signature so the fat ones make it look silly not to mention I run out of room on the card. LOL

I have seen guests hand me credit cards with their signature in a sharpie, so it's not an uncommon thing. In fact, a lot of them also automatically give me their I.D. along with the card. Although I'm sure the griping and complaining will begin soon.

Ralph always thanks the clerks for asking to see ID. He likes that he is being protected from the bad guys who might have stolen his card. I think it is great that all clerks ask. He always tells the clerks, "I just wish everyone in every store everywhere would ask."

I feel the same way! DW and I used to do the "check ID" in the signature block, until A lot of CC companies started making it so you couldn't do this by making it invalid without a signature.
(I remember many years ago actually getting a brochure with one CC (BofA?) that suggested that we do that for security)

Now we sign, and put "check ID" after the signature!

Of course, that is no guarantee. I remember when one of my assignement was to do security checks for passes we issued to secure areas. we had several passes made up with pictures on them of (you guessed it!!) Mickey Mouse, Donald, and some of the dwarves!! (A co-worker that had red hair used Woody Woodpecker)

We would then gain access to the area, and asked if they knew us (they didn't, as we were from the other coast) Then asked if the I.D. picture matched us! Had some interesting reactions when they saw the true "idenity" on the pass!
