Re: Bus Question

Yes, at night I turn the lights off. Even in the new Gilligs the reflection can be bothersome and dangerous IMHO. I do announce to my guests that the lights are going out and before the resort I give a warning that the lights are coming on.

The only bus that I know of that can go that fast is the super Nova. It's the only one not governed (that I know of and I don't doubt BW at all)

If you are driving that fast, you should be termed, period.

The driver on the Cast Shuttle tonight turned on a few MiMs announcements. The guy was apparently to lazy to talk himself. At the tunnel he activated the spiel that tells people to move all the way back to make room for other guests. He could have just as easily probably used the PA and made the announcement himself.

Then as we were just about to turn into West Clock the lights came on (with no warning) and MiMs gave the message about waiting for the bus to come to a complete stop, etc. before getting up or moving.

I've never heard or even heard of MiMs being used on the Cast Shuttle before. Once or twice I've heard the driver use the PA to ask everybody to move back to make more room and I've never heard any kind of announcement about waiting for the bus to stop.

Why do I doubt that happened? Maybe because the other day I was talking to some people on the Cast Shuttle and they told me that the driver had injured 4 CMs a few days before by stopping way to hard (and for no reason apparently). He was reported to Transportation and IMO should have at least been suspended if not termed. Instead he was still behind the wheel, at least it was driving CMs and not guests. His driving was still quite rough and abrupt the day I rode with him so I'm not sure he was disciplined at all or if he was that it worked.

Unfortunately, the quality of the drivers being hired there days is poor. All that is being done is to fill slots and that's castings doing. They cast someone who came in to be in custodial as a driver. When he did not pass core, he was recast into custodial, which is where he wanted to be in the first place!

Shorty, tried to find you Sat night. Where were you hiding?

IIRC, I was in the Confectionery for a good bit of my shift. Probably the best way to find me when I'm working is to ask one of the MSE CMs to call the coordinator and find out where I'm at exactly. Sending you a PM in a second.

Goofyernmost wrote:Second and probably most important was that as soon as we started to move, all the interior lights went off. I mean it was pitch black inside the bus. The bus was full of people, some standing with children and it was total darkness. I was completely shocked that this was happening. In my mind it was a lawsuit in the making.
Some of the buses I drove when I was younger acually was able to turn all of the door side lights and every other driver side light off. When the door was opened the lights would come back on until the doors were closed. It wasnt completely the best for the driver but it was better than having all the lights on. Our policy was lights were to be on when there was an external passenger on board (non-employee).

Wow, the resurrection of one of my old threads. Who knew that could happen?

I still stand by my original statement. I think it is foolish to shut the lights off on a moving, fully loaded bus. It's dangerous, plain and simple. It leaves Disney open for multiple problems that cannot be verified one way or the other and with the proper filtering on the lighting system the visibility for the driver is not compromised in any measurable degree.

When I rode the bus that night I had a small boy sit next to me in the last row across the back. His parents were a couple of seats forward where they could keep an eye on him, if the lights had been on. I must have looked trustworthy to the parents as well as the kid because he promptly leaned over against my arm and fell sound asleep. It was cute as hell, but all the while I couldn't help but be concern about the massive amounts of allegations and problems that could have come from that.

Well... I drove for a University so we were more concerned with what the students were doing on the buses than what may happen.

Well, there are some interesting things that used to happen on those late night buses that had the drunks from PI before the clubs closed. Search for the lady in the red dress if you want more details. :D:

Well, I'll continue the resurrection.

I got to drive one of the new Nova's Sunday night. Less than 1k miles and complete with the new bus smell :D: I actually had fun driving, it handled great and of course, everything worked!

The lighting has been redone, you can now turn on just the very back of the bus lights or all of them. This makes for the ability to drive with the light on without the glare distracting the driver. Even without that light the lights on to illuminate the exits and the stairs going to the dance floor in back provide plenty of light. (the new Nova's have stairs like the Gilligs, not the ramp any more)

I did not have a manager say anything about this but I believe that this is a step forward in nighttime guest safety
