I was just responding to his observation that they were backstage. ;)

When I worked at Knott's, I was on the Calico R.R. when the cheerleaders invaded. Once I was bringing the train back, to find a cheermom and three cheerleaders opening the turnstile and going into the bullpen. I told them they weren't supposed to do that, and there was a sign saying to wait there until the conductor lets them on. They yelled back "We didn't see the sign, and don't talk like that to us!" Fuckin' spoiled brat biotches! Boy, that woman was a real good example to her girls--bet if that train ran over the little darlings she'd be screaming her head off. I think cheerleaders must be required to undergo a lobotomy in order to get on the squad!

When I was in high school, I had a friend who was on the cheerleading squad, and another who was on the drill team. Both girls were smart and level-headed. In fact, I think cheerleaders in my day were smarter than the ones today. I think cheerleaders today are told that if they rah-rah, zis-boom-bah hard enough, they're invincible! NOT!!!!

Actually, there seems to be a sure and steady decline of good manners starting with my generation. I'm not sure why, but no one seems to believe that the rules apply to them and if you yell and scream enough, you'll get your way.
Kids today act as if they are just as important (if not more) than the adults trying to guide them....and if you look at some of the shows on the Disney channel, it would give you the impression that the kids are in charge. I try really hard to teach my kids that life is primarily hard work, and no, they are only rarely going to get their way, but it is kind of hard when their friends are not living the same way! I do think the future is going to be hard on some of these pampered princes and princesses!

Yeah, the "real life effect" hits them hard at times. Usually you see a few "check out" before graduation by driving drunk or reckless and killing a few in the car with them. It always seems that they were "a good kid" or "level headed" yet they were engaged in such behavior.

I read an interesting article, probably over ten years ago, about the decline in interpersonal communications (talking!) to people with the advent of cell phones and E-Mail. Many skills were judged to be on the decline, and that many people that used this method extensively were uncomfortable and irratable when having to deal with people in person, as they wanted immediate replys or results of any conversation!

This must be coming to fruition.

Some of these kids just scare me, frankly, with how little common sense and decision making ability they have.

But it seems that their parents didn't learn much common sense either in a lot of cases!

When you try to teach your child manners, basic kindness, and all these days it really stands out. I rememember complimenting at least a dozen parents personally on our last trip when their pre-teen would say, grab a door for me as I struggled with a tray at Captain Cook's (everyone else was back at the room crashed) and/or offered their seat on the monorail to my elderly father (who has very bad balance and could get injured trying to stand in motion).

I got some of those remarks about my own daughter too- who understands that the second someone comes onto the bus who needs the seat- you give yours up, because you're lucky enough to be strong and can stand.

One thing that kills me is how texting seems to be exterminating what was left of grammar skills in our country.

It pains me to think. . .what if some of the great poets had been corrupted by text-talk? Would Tennyson have written this? "ThR's is not 2 make rply, ThRs is not 2 ? Y, ThRs is but 2 do & die."
