It does sound like though that they need to start bringing trains down one at a time and give them complete and total mechanical inspections and overhauls.
I would think that they hve some sort of maintence and or overhaul schedule. Something with that much "riding" on it must have a lot of stuff to wear out or need adjusting!

Maybe they will just close the whole system down and cover it with dirt since that would be cheaper then maintnance, then they could turn it into a POOH attraction of some sort.

No that would be the worst thing to do!! That is what makes WDW and DLR stand out from any other parks. (among other things)
Especially when you can get on one at your hotel and ride it to the park!!

My point exactly. Just like 20K was a Disney original, yet they burried and covered it with pooh.

Not up on the reference, but it seems like they take out the old stuff and refurbish it to something that takes getting used to, the Mission to Moon/Alien escape/stich as an example. They should have just updated the Mission to the Moon and left it at that.

To Clarify,
20K Refers to the old twenty thousand legues ride which was dismantled and the lagoon filled. This was later built over with Winnie The Poohs ride, as well as the Pooh corners play area Characters Meet and Greet. There may have been more, but I forget how large it was.

Oh!! Should have picked up on that!! I made my first "pilgrimage" to WDW in 1987, on a long weekend break from work in Georgia. I don't recall seeing the 20K ride at the MK! We first went to Epcot, as we had been to Disneyland, and the idea was to see what wasn't offerred in California! Thats too bad because I thought the Captain Nemo submarines were much more "Disney" than the ones at Disneyland.
