I wouldn't count on that. Remember, you're only as safe as the *dumbest* GSM!
Trust me, you want to maintain plausible deniability about your SGT participation. Should a manager ever ask, tell them that you like to keep your personal life separate from your work life. If they persist, ask for a Shop Steward.
Been there, done that, got the death threats....

Why would management, or anyone else for that matter, give a hoot what CM's do in their off time? you are not spreading any lies or rumors, not that it would make one bit of difference. and if anything, are showing that DLR and WDW is one of the best places to go to and enjoy.

I can give you an example. If, as part of a conversation, you give trip advice it can be decided, by some officious manager determined to push you around, that you are setting yourself up in competition with the official Disney travel agency. Which can get you in hot water. I know of one CM who battled that situation. It finally came to a decision of no conflict of interrest, but it took a few years and LOTS of hard feelings. So even if there is no direct problem, a hint of rumor can blow all out of control. So I fully understand the desire to keep the personal communications and the professional ones as seperate as possible.
Besides it's fun to see the total blank looks you get when you ask a driver at WDW if he knows anyone named Cranbiz.

;) :D:

I posted it somewhere else on this board, too, but I'll repeat: The easiest way to confuse a bus driver is to wander up to him and casually say "So...uh...Big Wallaby?" I actually got some very funny responses, but none of the CM's were the much sought-after marsupial... I did tell a few of them about SGT, also, and I'm surprised and saddened that none of them have found there way here yet. :(

I Supposed that could be true, but if anything, the advice I have seen here, and other boards, just makes me want to take extra tours, or explore the parks more. and the CM's here are not selling anything direct, but in a way, are assisting the Disney Travel company, by talking about something we might be interested in doing, and so the first thing I would do is call the travel company and book it (A sale!)

You know that and I know that, but there are some persons with a position of authority who seem to think that the way to get ahead is to find a reason to slap down anyone under them who is doing a good (to excellent) job and enjoys doing it. This isn't just in parks, but most any company with more than two employees.
You and I realize that talking to other enthusiests and persons who have some behind the scenes knowledge can make for increased sales. Even something like talking about discounts tends to increase sales. I talk to many people who wouldn't do some extra activity until they found a discount that brought it into the budget. And others who say that with every discount it "just gives me that much more to spend on souveneirs". And how much do you wanna bet that if they get a $10 discount somewhere they will spend $15 of that discount somewhere on property. ;)

I can personally vouch that will happen. We got discounts on all four of the extras we took last trip, because of a CC I have. And what we did save there, ended up being almost double what we ended up getting at DTD on souvineers for others. Plus we splurged on getting ornaments for ourselves and so forth. And we came away feeling like we got good value for our vacation bucks! so its a win-win.
It is too bad that some of the managers take that attitude. I would think that the more the CM's talk, the better for everyone. Sometimes there is bad news with the good. And being an adult, please don't give me the "everything is wonderful" talk. I KNOW that things don't always go right, I KNOW there are crowds and that attractions will break down. Just tell me, and I will go to a less crowded park or attraction, or go get something to eat or drink!!!
Mmmmm Tonga Toast.

Do you have me and my roommates under surveillance? ;) That is exactly us. "Ooh! We have to buy this! It's on sale, so if we buy it, we're saving money!" And we're big fans of all the little things Disney's doing now like Magical Express. Some people hate that because Disney's keeping you from going anywhere else like shopping at the Disney outlet or it discourages you from having your own car to go to Universal. We don't understand why anyone would *want* to go anywhere else! No need for a stop at the outlets, the shops at WDW have all the souvenirs we need, and there's no need to go to Universal because WDW keeps us plenty entertained... And there's *certainly* no need to drive! I do that plenty at home. And riding WDW transportation gives me extra time to hassle bus drivers and subtly find out if they happen to be named Wallaby or Cranbiz! :p:

I can see that, "security, we have a guest demanding to see Cranbiz, anyone know what the heck he's talking about?"
hehehe
