I found out several years after we left Hawaii that the house we lived in, and sold for a huge profit, got infested with Formosan termites and the owners didn't get it fumigated and the termites did so much damage they finally had to have the house torn down. There's a mobile home on the lot now.
When my son was in the Army and traveling TDY to Korea he had a short layover in Hawaii so he rented a car and drove out to visit the old neighborhood. He said it was so sad to see the yard all overgrown and a trailer parked there. We really liked that house and we had a beautiful vegetable garden behind it. There was a small concrete koi pond and when we cleaned out the koi pond we used the old pond water on our corn and other plants and everything grew like crazy. We once had a sheriff's department helicopter hovering over our corn patch with someone checking with binoculars to see if we were growing pakalolo (marijuana) along with the corn.
It was a happenin' boogaloo!

Termites are another problem in the tropics. They'll lay waste to anything that's not treated with killer chemicals.

I thought mobile home were against the law as government here is mostly controlled by the unions. Construction unions are very strong.

The cops still find lot of da kine pakalolo. There was a bust on Kauai a few months ago that netted a whole family and a huge farm. Hana seems like a good place to grow and avoid getting busted.

Well Santa has done his flyover for milk and cookies and the reindeer have been fed their yearly treat of carrots (I personally hate raw carrots, but apparently they really like them) water and magic pixie dust oats. (so glad they eat them and not me). Those reindeer are some messy eaters. Glitter and oats EVERYWHERE on the front porch. He dropped off gifts under the tree and filled Meghyn's stocking. Santa is pooped. He needs to go to bed soon.

Happy Christmas, (or whatever you celebrate or dont) Have a great holiday everyone!

Poor ol' Santa - he's had a rough night. Glad he was able to find your house, and hopefully everyone else's, too. He left me some cool Mickey luggage!

Hobie - it might have been a manufactured home or something (do they allow those in Hawaii?).

There was a company that tried a few years ago but I don't think it went too far. It is a shame that mobile homes aren't allowed. Between the price of materials and a limited pool of construction people, it's ungodly what it costs to build a home here. A friend, who is a general contractor, was telling me yesterday how tough it is to get new work because people freak out when they get his bid. The cost of labor is so out of whack that large jobs are being done by imported crews from the Mainland.

Just because the state says no mobile homes doesn't mean there wasn't one there. It could have been a job site trailer/office someone had converted. I bet it had Hawaiian State flags (blue tarps) on the roof too. :D:

Now I thought that the official Florida state flag was the FEMA blue tarp. :D:
