We have something in common, I was always the house manager at my schools theatrical productions (in addition to all of the bit parts ;) ). The worst was always having to record messages on the reservation Voice Mail. Spieling is really fun if you get into it. I make the most from what little spieling I have left. I love when I get put into Circle Greeter position as that is heaviest spieling position at The Land.Sarah Magdalene wrote:Hey folks!
Thanks so much for the assistance and humor you guys. I gotta confess I'm a bit of an interview nut. I suppose it's the theater person in me who loves interaction with others. My "specialty" is theatrical management - front of house assistance. In college, University of Florida, I was Head Usher and House Manager for a number of main stage shows as well as Florida Players (student run drama group) productions . I have also studied improv comedy and stage managed a sketch comedy troupe for 3 seasons. So maybe having a good deal of such skills under my belt - not to mention being the ultimate social butterfly, can get me into a High level spieling job. I have done a lot of spieling as a house manager -

"Once the doors have opened all the way please take small children by the hand, spouses included, and watch your step as you descend the stairs into our theater"
or at the Unload 2 position (which may have been dropped as safety critical)
"Please gather all personal belongings including hats, cameras, sunglasses, small children, spouses, in-laws, or anything else I can't use or sell and exit to your right."
The important part is for you to have fun, and then your guests will have fun!
That was a favorite of mine when I worked Shrek 4D at Universal Hollywood. I also loved making silly PA announcements in Preshow, sounding like I was paging a guest that had left his carriage running, or the like.Randy B wrote: I will always remember the CM at Carrousel of Progress who told us all to "pull the seatbelt out from the left and click it into the right. If you have any problems, raise your hand." Of course every hand shot into the air. He then told us that those of us with our hands up were having a joke played on them as there ARE no seatbelts.
The seat belt trick is also very popular on The Land...Randy B wrote:And these are the kinds of CMs I LOVE. The people who not only can take the same tired old announcement that we have heard dozens of times (by noon of the first day) and with a tiny little bit of humor, make it new.

Of course every hand shot into the air. He then told us that those of us with our hands up were having a joke played on them as there ARE no seatbelts. The normal spiel proceded. But he ended up by telling us that "in the event that we have to ditch in water, your seat cushion may be used as a flotation device". :D:
And to make this more memorable I just happened to be recording the audio on that day and got it all on MD. :D:

And we have a winner. Without ever seeing CMGUY's performance I can tell (doing a Sally Fields accepting an Oscar impression) "He Gets It! He Really Gets It!"CMGUY89 wrote:The seat belt trick is also very popular on The Land...
Also people ask if you get wet on the ride, I say, "If you do, something is seriously wrong..."
Or also "Does this ride have a drop?", "Yes. it's about six inches when you leave the load belt"
"Is this ride scary?" (mostly little kids)
(gets down on one knee) "Only if you think vegetables are scary... personally I get really scared of peas, but only when they are on my dinner plate. How about you?" ;)
I definitely agree! CMGUY is a guy I want to meet on our trip! You are the kind of CM Disney is about! We love it when we hear the *groaners* those old jokes that are so silly and classic that they never get old! Thank Goodness we have CMs who love what they are doing, (even it is not the right fit, just yet ;) ) like the all the CM's here. We *heart* you!!!!!Randy B wrote:And we have a winner.
