VERY LOW pay and someone out to get you at every turn! And if the ratings ain't up, you are gone immediately! They have your replacement already waiting. It was a high stress job with long hours and lots of overnights in the early years! Still want to do it?
I started when I was 24 and worked through the late 1970's and 80's back when they actually *spun* records. Now it is all computerized. There were a LOT of perks. but I was glad to retire. I did a once a week show on Monday nights called "The Blues with Sooze", as well as a regular air shift schedule and worked in the front office during the day. That was the easy station in a small town. The bigger station I worked at, I did overnights, (midnight to 6) on the weekends and worked 8-5 in the office Mon-Friday. That was a killer! Usually 8-5 turned into 8-7. Fridays sucked. I got out of the office between 5 and 7, went home lay down for 2-3 hours, then up and back to the studio from midnight to 6, then Sat. sleep and back at the studio midnight to 6, Sunday was Football (the 1980's Fortyniners!!!!) and then to sleep and back to work 8-5 Monday morning. That schedule screwed me up! And sometimes I had to fill in on Sunday night, midnight to 6AM and be at work at 8AM in the office. Of course I was much younger then! It was easier.
There were lots of fun things about it back when it was live and you could spin records. That was a blast! I would still consider doing a weekend gig in a small town where they are live and computers or Clear Channel have not taken over yet! I also did a talk show and was a news anchor for Morning Drive with a couple of fools that were paid to be fools! I did mornings on an album rock station for a while and that was fun...Hendrix at 7 AM anyone! Yeah!

I actually almost got fired for that one! LOL! The station owner was a weenie and I was the Program Director and morning drive DJ so I got to set what music played and when! He gave me the power, then wanted it back, typical weenie station owner...

I worked a few different stations and did different things at each of them over the years. Funny thing is, I was always the super shy kid and it was radio that finally got me out of my shell. I always said, I had a face for radio! LOL! Never had the desire for TV, wanted to be a writer. Hard to make a living writing fiction and poetry as an unknown! Radio just hooked me in and I went with it for years! I actually did a lot of writing for radio, commercials and production. :)
At that time I was also managing local blues and reggae bands in Northern California. It was a wild time. I don't remember much of the 80's! LOL!
It was fun, but when I retired I was TIRED. I can't listen to the radio like a regular person. I am always trying to figure out their *clock* or this bit or that! It stays with ya! You would probably be good at it, with your spieling on busses! That is all radio announcing is, a good spiel!! :D: You would have fun too. I started in college radio and went straight into Top 40, then to album rock and news. One of my call lines was "This is Susi Slicker and I keep you up all night long, because I give good radio..." of course with a breathy delivery in the middle of the night... ;)
