Thank you for all the advice.
It seems I should really look into that wheelchair rental. I don't think we'll rent an ecv, I don't want to run over other guests ;) and it seems a bit of a hassle, but maybe I should really look into the regular wheelchair.
I know I won't be able to do all the rides. Most rides have counterparts at DL and DLP, so I have done them many many many times before. We go especially for the shows/ parades/ the fun atmosphere/ ... I can live without rides :)

But thanks for all the good advice, I know already a little more what I can expect and what to do, and feel less depressed.
regarding the tours: a week before we'll be in Disney, we are going to visit Kennedy Space center. That will be the ultimate test to see whether I can do teh tours or not, and I'll decide then if I'm going to cancel them or not.

But thanks for all the great advice!

PS: the TA has already arranged a handicapped accessible room. At this moment at home, I need to stay downstairs. The family put a bed in the living room, there is a toilet downstairs, but no real bathroom, so I freshen up at the kitchen sink (not much else I can do), so having a bathroom to really shower will be very nice, especially with that Florida weather!

Actually, a similar thing happened to my wife our last trip. She broke her ankle and had to wear almost the exact same cast at the time of our trip.

We rented a wheel chair (from an outside company) and had no problem. About the only ride that she couldn't do was the Tea cups, because of the tiny, tiny door and lack of legroom (the wife is 6' tall).

It'll be easier than you think.. Have a good time.

Glad to help and you are welcome. Check out wheelchair rentals. The wheelchair will save your energy for hopping on rides for example. The best thing about taking someone in a wheelchair is that with good planning you can load up everything you own on their chair. That and scaring the manure out of evil people like pretending to let go on hill, muahahaha. It is not a bother if you have several people to push. Remember to tell all about your trip when you get a chance. I know certain people who would pay for a wheelchair user to run over SG toes, lol.

We're going on the Disney cruise in a week and to MNSSHP and a few days at Disney afterwards with family from out of town (does it count as a vacation when you work there? The cruise does, but I'm not sure about the parks! :D: ) My mom actually broke a couple of bones in her back. She was worried about the same things you are. Obviously, she's not doing rides, but she enjoys shows and dinners. She was really worried about the cruise part though. When she asked the doctor about it, the doctor said he'd write her a perscription. He did. The perscription said, "Go on a cruise!"

What are your trip dates? Discovery is scheduled to go up on the 23rd...

At the time I booked the trip, he was supposed to be launched on the 20th, so that's the day we'll be at KSC, and leave on the cruise on the 21st. Oh well...

October 18: day on United Airlines, Brussels - DC - Orlando. United already knows I need assistance. Sleep at Best Western DTD
October 19: Spend awful amount of money at the outlet shopping mall. Burberry, Tommy, ralph Lauren, Ann taylor and Banana Republic: be warned! Go to Port Canaveral in the evening, spend night at Radisson
October 20: KSC, spend night at Radisson
October 21-25: Cruise to Bahamas with Carnival
October 26: Go to AS Music, maybe Airboat ride, start enjoying Disney food
October 27 - November 1: Enjoy the Mouse and his food. Steam train tour, Backstage Magic tour, MNSSHP (10/30), Spirit of Aloha, 50 PTC, Cape May breakfast, Kona breakfast, Coral Reef, ...
November 2: Orlando - DC -
November 3: Arrive back in Brussels :(

That should be the trip.
I'll let you know if everything went pretty much as planned :)

I used to work for Radisson... I can tell you, without a doubt, that between the people there and the facilities, that is one of the nicest Radissons I have ever seen.
