The two most important words in a CM's vocabulary.

Please and Safety.

You can get away with a lot if you use those words in a sentance together.

If I see people in line to get into TL who are smoking I will politely point them to the nearest ashtray, which is off to the side.

Then when they actually enter the Park I will hand them an open map, point out a couple of the smoking areas and symbols, and suggest they may want to park themselves close to one of the authorized smoking areas.

Generally they do actually politely thank me for the information.

I grew up with parents who smoked, and didn't give a crap that 1) the windows were up in the car and we were dying in the back and 2) teachers thought I smoked, in elementary. It was bad. I remember crawling on the floor as a kid to get under the smoke cloud. I had burns in clothes, ashes on me, and one time step-dad flicks ashes out of the car window and they come right back in the back window, right into my eye (this was in the summer when it was too hot to keep the windows up...)

I tend to make comments, usually about designated smoking areas and try to be nice. When that failed, I started taking pictures. I have one of a lady trying to avoid me while she goes down main street at DL. It's my favorite so far :D:

The designated area's are a great idea though, except the placement of the one in Tomorrow Land at DL. That seemed like an after thought "oh noes!!11! we forgot a smoking area in tomorrow land! Just put it there and let anyone who rides the train enjoy!" Probably picked by a smoker :D:

To smokers: I support your right to smoke, but my right to clean air overrides your right to smoke, since it's easier to not smoke than it is to clean the air. Unless I am visiting at your house, then I'll either not visit or go outside. Also, please consider the health factors. My mother is a medical mess (or a doctors dream with the amount of money she has spent), and the bulk of her problems are the result of years of smoking. She finally quit, but the damage has been done. I'll put the soapbox back for the next person to use it.
