i think its amazing. not to be pretentious, but at 15 I planned my first disney trip by myself. Me my sister, and her friends all drove to the park from AZ, checked into the Jolly Roger (or not so jolly... bleh) got our two day park hopper tickets, knew what rides were probably going to be closed, and knew what attractions we wanted to visit over our stay. I planned so well it only cost me less than a months worth of part time lifeguarding to pay for my portion. Its infathomable that people will spend money in the thousands to fly and not even know what they want to do, or when the park opens and closes!tacoboy wrote:Nope, they spend time in the parks in that area and ask us the same questions they ask you... even if they have an annual pass! :D:

Believe it or not, I also have a similar story.Taryn wrote:The couple stared at him blankly, before revealing that they were under the impression that Spaceship Earth was the ONLY ATTRACTION at Epcot. They thought they had payed who knows how much just to take a 15 minute ride in a giant golf ball.
Back in 2000, I went to Epcot as a guest. On the Monorail I overheard a teenage girl tell her friends, "This is all Epcot? Oh, that sucks... it's just a park. I thought it was all inside that big ball."

Thanks for the link, that article was quite the train wreck. My personal favourite was his objection to the ship having ports of call. Having taken that cruise myself, I know for a fact that no one forces you to get off the ship. Syndrome? I'm surprised you haven't jumped on this one.BRWombat wrote:Amazing, isn't it? I just can't understand it at all.
What really astonished me recently is that even a veteran Disneyphile, an author of books on Disney and manager of a fansite (who shall remain nameless, but his report is here), did the exact same thing when he went to write on taking a Disney cruise for the first time.

Re: That was it??
When I had my first orientation seminar in Paris back in 1998, my instructor told me she had once encountered a man who asked her where the ride entrance for Space Mountain was. This sort of surprised her, as they wer enot even in the park but outside it, in Disney Village. The guest pointed to Planet Hollywood and asked if that was Space Mountain...
Turns out he had spent two days wandering between the restaurants and souvenir shops in Disney Village, never realizing there was an amusement park just 150 meters further down the road! He seriously had not noticed the vertiable flood of people heading that way every morning and then back in the evening, but he did admit to being a little baffled that nobody had bothered to check his park tickets as he wandered in and out of the "attractions" (=shops & restaurants)...
As the gentleman in question seemed very honest and perhaps not very well mentally prepared to go on a long vacation by himself, the CMs helped him get a free extra night in his hotel and made sure he got inside the real park the next day. :)

Oooo, I totally missed that link!! Thanks for pointing it out...I needed a good laugh today. It doesn't take 50+ Disney cruises to catch the glaring inaccuracies. I am restraining myself from writing a commentary, but oh, I am sooooo tempted!! Maybe he was on a Disney cruise in some evil alternate universe where they force you to get off at the ports of call at gunpoint, where dress-up is still the norm and people in casual wear are keelhauled, and where Matt Ouimet was the first DCL president (okay, okay, I'm stopping now). Myself, I simply pretend that Nassau is another day at sea...I hope lots of people read that report and think that because the ship stops at ports, it is mandatory to visit them. After all, that means there will be less bodies on the ship for me to contend with as I enjoy the blissful peace of spending a port day on board.Morticia wrote:Thanks for the link, that article was quite the train wreck. please do do a commentary. That article really irritated me. Wow. I've never been on a Disney cruise and his inaccuracies were glaring. Loved his fuzzy math, too.
As for Carnival vs. Disney? Please. Not even a comparison for a young family. Carnival doesn't even allow toddlers in their swimming pools. That's fun for a young family.
Re: That was it??
So yeah, since I'm getting ready to go back (Well around Halloween for the MNSSHP and then a trip on the Wonder 10/28) This is my very first cruise, ever, but my gf has gone on them all the time. You'd think if that dude wrote for a Disney Website, he'd understand how to research what he is about to drop dollars down on. The excuse he had for Palo/Lumiere is ridiculous, if you're spending good money on a cruise, I'm sure you can afford a polo and khaki's. I'm sure I could debunk him on a lot more, but I need to actually do some work, while at work. :(

This happened to a friend while working at Downtown Disney.
A man approaches him with his whole family in tow and says:
- Excuse me, where is Disney world?
- You are in Disney World right now sir
- Where are the rides?
- At the parks
- Parks? What parks?
