Just Back

Post by whopper_49 » Thu Sep 24, 2009 8:45 pm

I had a great solo trip and did some things my family won't normally do. The only head-shaking experience I had was Sat 9/12 at Spectro. Main Street is narrow to start with and the parade created quite a traffic jam at the Casey's intersection. The 2 CMs trying to keep the path open were everwhelmed by a crowd reluctant to move. They were clearly frustrated and were waving the blue flashlights everywhere. If it is so important to keep the intersection open there should be Security involved as a show of force. I felt bad for the two girls working so hard.
One of my favorite times was waiting at Pop for the MK bus in a long line. An EPCOT bus pulled up and half the line ran over to it and got on. I was able to get on the MK bus and the driver was grinning, saying they thought they would get there first, but it wasn't going to happen.
I was able to talk more with CMs and enjoyed the experience. Most of you seem to have a good time and enjoy interacting with the crowd.
I do think that you could have lowered the humidity for me to make my trip more enoyable. Sorry that I didn't know anyone from this board. Keep up the good work.

It is important to keep the path clear. It is a safety issue if the paths get blocked. There has to be cleared paths in the event of an emergency. Keeping the paths clear is primarily the responsibility of Parade Audience Control (PAC), not Security. Sounds like though those cast needed help from Security though. PAC cast don't carry radios so couldn't call Security themselves.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

I'd use high pressure air horns. They're small and really pack a wallop. They can be applied two ways:

1. Use normally. The sound alone will get people moving to get away from it.

2. Hold closely to non-moving SG's ass and push button. The now decompressed gas from the canister is very cold and will give the non-moving SG's butt an instant patch of frost bite.

I always liked watching policemen on horses. They turn sideways and walk the crowd back. Who wants to get stepped on?
Here at the University of Missouri, back in the early 70s the freshmen football players were required to guard the goalposts after every game. 50-60 players vs 12,000 fans resulted in downed goalposts. Finally the players were replaced with 1 man and 1 German Sheppard. Result: no more goalposts were torn down. Just put Pluto in charge of crowd control!

Most recently, when we watched Spectro from this area, the CM's did a good job keeping the walkway clear. They kept telling people 'You can only watch from inside the roped area.' Unfortunately, some guests took this to mean ' just get on the other side of the rope.' The last family group who crowded in on us thought that this was just another day on the Tokyo subways, and acted accordingly, for they certainly couldn't understand my statement-in English- that my wife and I were already standing here and there wasn't room for four more bodies!

In more than one instance we've had similar SG's. But we've learned to stand AT the rope and hold on to it as they approach. "Can we stand here?" "Sure, get here an hour earlier." Works every time. :p:

If they were Japanese I can guarantee you they saw room for at minimum four more bodies. I've been on the Japanese sardine train from Maihama station to Tokyo station right after a typhoon hit during morning rush hour. Good times...
