BW, the problem with sociopaths is that they'll just say YOU have a problem- They are ALWAYS right, everyone else is wrong, so I don't think you would get anywhere using the label. Just use it to categorize.
I think doing just as you did, calmly stating how their actions impacted you, then limiting their behavior by providing a consequence allowable by Disney is perfect. Vent to us, and appropriate persons on the job. If sociopaths feel they have made you upset, they'll love it. You cooly giving them what they deserve, will make them way more irritated
Sweep them off the Platform (figuratively)like the cockroaches they are, and out of your life. Don't let them change YOU. Remember that there are many of us here who are thinking of you and the other Monorail Pilots at this difficult time.

GaTechGal: How you affect others will depend on the person you talk to. But as a general rule, I wouldn't bring it up at all. If somehow the CM brings it up, I think it is okay to offer condolences. I have kind of brought it up myself a few times, when a kid runs up before the parents come, and ask. Or when the parents didn't think that the cab rides would go away.

If the CM tells the kid is a safety precaution, that means they don't want the kid to hear about the incident right before they get on the monorail. This is not the proper time to yell "oh, cause that guy died?"

I also wouldn't talk to the pilots when they pop out to get the doors about it. Greetings, thanks for the ride, etc. are fine. Definitely not the time to walk up and ask how the crash happened. I can understand wanting to offer condolences, but not the guys/girls driving the monorail.

Now, I'm not saying to avoid talking to us. We're here to help, so if you need help ask for it. If you truly have a concern about the safety of the Monorail, ask. We will be able to tell if you are genuinely concerned or trying to probe about the crash.

There is some stuff that the guests are doing that other railies find offensive, that I personally do not. For example, when a parent brings the family up to the front to ask for a cab ride. The day after the crash, it's offensive. A month later I can see how they might not expect it to still not be available. For 38 years, 50 if you count DL Cali, the cab rides have always been available. So a lot of these people were raised with cab rides being available, and they've never been to Disney when the cab was unavailable. So I don't think that anger towards any guest that asks about the front cab is justified, but it's something that each monorail CM is going to have to get to by themselves.

Also, there's the smile. I personally have this grimace that, unless you really know me, seems like a smile. I've noticed that many, many guests do this after asking for the cab. A kind of understanding/"I just asked a dumb question" look that they put on as they usher the kids into the cars. I've heard some stories from fellow CMs that might have been just this. Then again I have seen some smiles that were most certainly not that reaction. So as a guest, if you do this and the CM's attitude changes, don't take it personally.

That's all the advice I can offer really. If you act like a complete douche bag you'll be just fine with pretty much everyone.

Stupidity is not a handicap, stand elsewhere.

Thanks Speed. I'm really not interested in any information about the crash and COMPLETELY understand Disney not offering cab rides as a safety precaution. We were really more concerened about being supportive of the cast themselves. We know that their jobs are not all pixie dust and we want to be there for them as much as they have been there for us. So we'll just tell them "Thanks for a great time" and leave it at that.

I think condolences are okay, but keep it quiet so that others around don't hear and start doing their thing... it's a big wild card.

That and keep it quick, not going into details.

This week we had a CM Greeter having chest pains at work. The person was in the Guest Services office at the time on an unscheduled break. We called for the Alpha Unit.

My coordinator asked me to close my window and move to a ticket window for the duration. At one time we had both a Fire Truck and an Ambulance right in front of the ticket booths.

I did have one SG ask me what was going on. My only response was "There is a Medical emergency in progress" and left it at that. If the person had asked anything further I would have clearly told him what was going on was absolutely none of his business.

Actually whatever the problem it was not severe; there was no need to take her to a hospital. She was given an ER and someone drove her home

It's finally nice to hear about a Cast Member with a medical emergency having a good ending.

I understand. I can tell you that 99.9% of the time, cast with medical emergencies are just fine. Some are transported to hospital, some to Health Services, some just to home...but they get the care they need and recover just fine.

The number of medical emergencies for cast are high...some days way, way higher than guests. Fortunately, most cast and guests have no idea. That is a good thing. It means we are protecting the magic while caring for our cast and guests appropriately. :D:

And our Paramedics and special rescue teams are awesome. Of course, once you're dropped off at Celebration, you'd better be able to read your own X-Rays or you'll be shafted for all you're worth.

Sorry, that was personal.

I had a friend in a boating accident a couple weeks ago. Took him to Celebration, they X-Ray'd his foot and said he had minor swelling. I started making blowing visuals and noises. He was being blown off. One look at his toe and I had known that at least it was broken.

Next day, the VA Hospital in Tampa took one look at his foot, called Celebration and had the X-Rays sent over. The toe was broken, just as I had suspected. Along with 8 other bones throughout his foot.

Yeah, we were not pleased.
