My Mom passed away
Re: My Mom passed away
Thanks guys! My dad was an electrical systems engineer when I was growing up--he's retired now--so I learned a bit about electronics. But I haven't really kept in practice, ya know....
Re: My Mom passed away
I forgot to add I joined Roommates.com, and so far have two matches. I have cable until the 15th because that's their billing cycle, and phone until the 30th.
Re: My Mom passed away
My sister swung by earlier, and she said she is not moving my stuff. So, Churchy, and anyone who wants to help, I need ya the last weekend of the month. Churchy has my address. Still working on a place to live. Anybody know if an unadvertised place that allows pets, would give me my own bedroom and bath, and has decent amount of storage, preferably on the ground floor, let me know. I don't want to live with guys or coeds. Churchy, I PMed you yesterday, I still have you on my list of possibilities. Make sure you let me know when you're available. Still hoping to find a place by this weekend. Prayers wouldn't hurt either.

Re: My Mom passed away
My place only in emergency as you would have to potty on a commode, no shower or bathtub just the sponge bath in the garage, and the rain ruined room that Calvin to clean up a bit. The house is one step above the street and not fit for a lady. Give us a date and someone will show up and if not I will be there to help somehow. We do not need your sister.
Honey you do not want to live my life and the hades I live in with no shower for 3 years or more, using a commode, the moldy rain in the back rooms. It is safer and better than the streets but not much better. I was hoping someone could help but many people on this board have their own lives.
Hugs and see you soon with the Money but health is poor form lack of sleep.

Contact your local senior center, there may be a nice older lady who likes cats and needs a roomie/ or caregiver ;)
Maybe you'll have to keep some stuff in storage for a while until prospects improve.....

Call Orange Senior Center. They post rooms in homes. You do not need to be a senior to get info or be on their Housing List. 170 S. Olive Street at Almond (Downtown) Orange, 92866 (714) 538-9633. Most of the Senior Centers have housing lists for all ages. I also believe you need to call Adult Protection Services. Again, you do not need to be 55 or older. Seems from your postings your family abuses you in many different ways. Abuse is not always classic Chris Brown style. APS listed under The County of Orange. Ask to speak with Nancy. She has/had a few very reliable women who had rooms for rent. Small pets were welcome. Nancy or one of her staff just "might" be able to convince you to apply for SSDI. A worker will go with you to apply if they feel you need help with SSDI office. You are under the impression one must be 65, blind, deaf or whatever. Simply not true. We have working CMs who get SSDI. Only hurting yourself if you don't try every avenue. Don't mean to sound harsh or cruel. I simply would like you to be taken care of & receive all govt. & state funds you can.

Re: My Mom passed away
Thanks. A poster I emailed last night on Craigslist replied shortly thereafter, though it means sharing a bath and it's practically next door to John Wayne Airport.
A match from Roommates.com had dropped off my list, but just returned. So I will keep your resources in mind, have them written down. Now, I have a check coming from the blood pressure study, but my I.D. card is expired since last August, and the DMV site says it takes 60 days for it to go through the system. You wouldn't happen to know if there's a way to speed up the process, would you? :D:
With that check, I can pay for Tripod's shots and blood work she needs to have soon.
The information I got about SSDI is from the AARP site. I think it's rather strange they make you eligible to join when you turn 50, but the bulk of their services are geared for people 55 +. Maybe I should point that out to them. And their job services for seniors are likewise mainly for older persons, or persons who don't have current skills. Not all of us Boomers acquired computer skills, or served in management, or are retired CEOs with time on our hands, but that seems to be what they are looking for. Maybe it's just the area I live in.
But like I say, if I didn't have the family I have, where would I get the resources for bad guys in my writing? Truth is stranger than fiction, ya know! Maybe once I get settled I can get started on writing this beast.

Re: My Mom passed away
Too late, already made the appt. at the DMV. But in the past I've learned it sure can get you through the horrific lines faster. I wish they would post accurate information on websites; Wikipedia is bad enough. I have prepaid day passes I need to use up, so I might as well take the bus. I've been doing that since OCTA was OCTD originally in the mid-70s, anyway. I'm used to it.
I emailed the Orange Senior Center regarding their housing match service; have yet to hear form them. Luckily, I know to check things out; found a place on Craigslist, and without going into details, it's fishy. My nephew came today and cut and colored my hair--next time, I'll ask him to cut it shorter, and put more red in the hair color. He and a few friends took some stuff as well, so hopefully they'll be around tomorrow or Monday after Mom's funeral to take more stuff. Makes housekeeping much easier without a ton of stuff on the floor to vacuum around.

Re: My Mom passed away
I am here and this is what I said on disAbilities.
You must let the birdie fly free and you will run after it with a net but if you let the birdie fly free then it will no longer need you. I can hold you hand and help you out or I can set here and hope someone like XX will drive an hour or two to pitch in with the moving. I am setting here hoping that someone will donate money and not rely on me to be the sole supporter. I am waiting in case it gets to hard to handle and you need me to help out but I am also waiting for others in your life as well as you to help you out.
fly little birdie and may God keep you aloft and if there comes a time when you cannot stay aloft then I am here. My pastor told me that I needed to grow up when mom got sick and I did. It is a hard time for you and I really feel sorry for you but I will set here and watch you battle hard and grow stronger against what seems impossible. I have a nice soft pillow to catch you if you fail but honestly I know that you can succede, you ahve a lot in you if you really use your abilities.
I have the money and can help with rides. As for the others they can speak for themselves and I know that in their hearts most of them would give you a cottage to live in with Tripod if they could. ;)
hugs
Laurie :)
