Socks Will Not Be Down for Fancy Feast

Post by mechurchlady » Sun Feb 22, 2009 8:18 am

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socks_(cat)

In 1991 a stray cat came to Chelsea Clinton and was a White House cat who retired with Clinton's secretary, Betty Currie.
In June 2008, Socks was still living with Currie and her husband in Hollywood, Maryland, about 80 miles from Washington, but had a thyroid condition, hair loss, weight loss, and kidney problems.[3]

In December 2008, Socks was reported to be in failing health, apparently suffering from cancer.[4]

Socks was euthanized on February 20, 2009, in Hollywood, Maryland,[5] after suffering cancer of the jaw

She got him in 1991 and he was a grown adult so he had to have been born in 1989 and was not 18 years old. This site gets the right age.

Rest in peace Socks. When the Clintons got a puppy there were lots of jokes about the cat taking out the dog.

I have an autographed picture of Socks. Maybe I'll sell it on ebay. ;)

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

That has the excerpts of the book about Socks.

He was a good cat who put up with his owners giving him to a secretary and the Clintons bring in a bratty dog, cat view point.

I thought it was thyroid cancer-- read it on MSNBC the other day. Actually Socks and Buddy got along quite well. They're together now over the Rainbow Bridge. And I understand Socks was actually pretty close to Ms. Currie. He was always nearby when she was working.
