On foxnews.com there is a report that one of the reasons for delay in the film's opening may have to do with Daniel Radcliffe's Broadway debut in Equus. The play Equus is a very violent, intense play about a young man who blinds horses. Daniel Radcliffe plays the lead role. At one point, his characters appears on the stage naked and their are also scenes of sex. (I have never seen the play or the movie-nor do I want to.)
Equus will be having its run around the same time the Half-Blood Prince film was originally set to debut. Warner Bros would like to distance themselves from any publicity that will stem from the play. By the time the film will open next summer, Equus will either have closed or Daniel Radcliffe's contract on the play will be completed.

No, Warner Bros said in a release that they are moving it to coincide with the same opening weekend that the highly successful Dark Knight opened thinking that it will bring more money in and because there are no other big movies opening in the summer, again cause they figure they'll make more money. It has nothing to do with production or any plays anywhere. Besides, I believe the play started over a year ago, maybe it stopped for a bit for Daniel to film and it's restarting again but I'm pretty sure that the play has already opened.

You are right on that one. I remember there was a story about it on some entertainment "news" show, but the story seemed to die a quiet death. The play has bee around since the 70's so other than his fame from the HP movies, that seems to be the only unique thing about him starring in the play.

The revival of Equus did occur last year-in London. It was so successful there that it is coming to Broadway this fall. Daniel Radcliffe was in the London production.
