Re: Please wear an actual shirt
Hey, no offense, but have any of you contemplated that you might just be a bunch of old fuddy-duddies? ;)
Seriously, I'm not interested in seeing products advertised which "aren't for sale" but kids are kids and every generation is a little more liberal than the last. Further, not every country comes from such a puritanical background as ours. Europeans don't freak out if they see a tit. I'm not saying your opinion is invalid, I'm just suggesting that you all might be over thinking the situation a little bit. Sure, parents should be conscious of what their kids are wearing (in the same way they should be conscious if their kid is building bombs in the garage!) but just because your standards are high, doesn't mean everyone's should be. For example, I recall my sister wearing a vintage halter top from the late 60's or early 70's that used to be my mom's (from when my mom had a figure) quite a bit when she was about 17 or so, including on trips to Disneyland. I just don't see a problem. Nothing that shouldn't be showing was, and have any of you noticed that it's pretty hot in California (and florida)? Further, I'm a big guy, but when I'm in shape, I like to wear less too! Right now, I'm keeping my gut tastefully covered, but when it's less round and more flat, I don't mind showing it off a little. (no, I don't borrow the halter top!) :p:
Basically, I'm happy you all are free to laugh about people dressing "inappropriately" here and elsewhere (including to their faces if you so choose)...But I'm sure happy you can't legislate your opinions about that.
(Side note: With the "poo poo on the pee pee" guy, my first thought was lesions as a result of an STD. That would be adequately embarrassing that it would certainly piss off a dad in a public place.... I don't know as I wasn't there, but I might still have watched for other interactions before passing positive or negative judgment on the guy...)
Edited to add: as I recall, my sister was allowed to wear slightly more revealing clothing when she was going to be with the family all day. If she was going to go off on her own, the standards could shift slightly. I'm fairly certain that my parents reasoning was that there's no reason to let her make herself a target when she's going to be alone or without adult supervision...just in case... (And my sister and I both managed to make it through childhood without ever being kidnapped! Go us!)

Kwahati,
I was wondering when someone would bring in the Europeans.
European males are probably less likely to get excited about seeing an exposed breast, but we are in the US, and no matter how bad people want to be like the Europeans, this isn't going to change overnight.
One possible issue that comes to mind is if a male see's a girl exposing herself (even if by accident), he may not be able to control his sexual urges. He stalks the girl and then assaults her. I could be a little paranoid, but I am 1) a father of two girls and 2) my job sometimes deals with child pornography. I've seen things that make you want to find the person responsible and do things to them that makes water boarding look like a summer vacation at $water_park.
I don't expect anyone to be up to my standards, quite frankly I can't live up to my standards, but there is a certain level of decorum that one should exhibit when visiting a place that is flooded with families.
Thankfully the Govt. wouldn't legislate this, it would get screwed up as bad as some of the other laws passed. Having a private organization set the standards and have a dress code on their own property is much better for all parties involved.

Actually, I must disagree. It might take years to become as apathetic as I am, but you can choose your attitude on anything at any time. Simply choose to stop caring because human skin is just not that impressive (well, beyond the scientific or religious implications of how it came about at least). I'm guessing, based on that you have kids, that you've seen a tit before. Is one more going to traumatize you? It might not be how you would choose to spend that moment of your life, but there's no real harm in seeing it...ktulu wrote:...and no matter how bad people want to be like the Europeans, this isn't going to change overnight....
My real problem, though, with "I care because this is how things are in my country" is that it's a step away from saying it's okay for Saudi police to prevent schoolgirls from leaving a burning building because they weren't dressed appropriately according to their country's standards. You know what the police force that did this is called in english? It's the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. Hmm...sounds to me like a bunch of people who think that guys can't possibly control themselves if they see some female flesh.

Now you're just stretching to make a point, so I'm not going to engage you any further. I know your views are very liberal, so it's best if we just agree to disagree.Kwahati wrote: My real problem, though, with "I care because this is how things are in my country" is that it's a step away from saying it's okay for Saudi police to prevent schoolgirls from leaving a burning building because they weren't dressed appropriately according to their country's standards. Very well said, Ktulu. I have noticed the dress code at the Parks getting looser and looser as well and quite frankly, it is not in the best interests of the young girls wearing these skimpy things. There ARE predators everywhere, even at innocent old Disney! It does not offend me in an esthetic sense as much as in a sense that these kids just don't understand that dressing so provocatively is not in their best interests. And I am not interested in seeing that much of other people's bodies. But some pervs might and that is dangerous.ktulu wrote:Kwahati,

I do not want to see someone's boobies or genitalia (men or women) in a Disney park. It ain't right and it is offensive if the clothes are showing those parts of the anatomy.
For those that are overweight, I have a lot of sympathy/empathy. It is HOT and one must dress to stay cool. Shorts and a tank top are appropriate whatever size you are. Not everyone can be thin and those who are not, can overheat faster and get heatstroke a lot more quickly if they don't stay cool in dress and in drinking water. It may not be the most pleasing thing to look at and the country as a whole IS getting fatter. I saw more VERY overweight people, I mean, nearing what is called morbidly obese, people at WDW on our trip there in May. It was sad to see. We as a nation need to eat better and stop this obesity epidemic and it is really getting bad with kids. But they still should be able to enjoy Disney as much as a thin person and I am glad they can. People come in all shapes and sizes and make life interesting. If we all were exactly the same weight and height and shape, it would be pretty boring.
But I do not begrudge the heavier or (pooh-sized) people the right to stay cool in the heat. I am middleaged (Waaaaaaaaahhhhh!) and not as thin as I was when I was in my 20's, but I still wear a two piece swim suit to the pols. I have a little poochy belly, and some jiggly arms, but I don't care what anyone thinks. I have gotten to a point that I will be comfortable in my own skin and if others don't like it, they don't have to look at me. I may not like that I have a pooch and jiggly arms, but I am comfortable with myself, enough to wear shorts and a tank top, or a 2 piece suit. I need to lose about 30 lbs. Mostly in my ass and my pooch and jiggly arms. LOL! :p:
For me, I want to try to lose the *pooch*, the jiggly arms and the fat ass. ;) hahahaha... I am not really that big, I am 6 ft tall and weigh 201 lbs now. I lost 13 lbs in the week after surgery on July 2nd. I have the chance to really slim down and feel better in my skin.
I am healthier when I am thinner, no high blood pressure, no heart disease risk, no diabetes risk, so healthier is better.
And, if I can lose the poochy belly, maybe I will get those OTHER looks I used to get at the Pool when I was in my 20's! That would be nice! ;) Ahhhhhh....to have the body I did when I was 20..... :p:
I think people should dress to cover themselves up at the parks and in public, but that does not mean that fat people should not wear shorts and a tank top. I think taste is an appropriate measure of what to wear in the Parks and public. Good taste and not showing everything is appropriate.
I think the styles today that the young girls see on the skanky celeb girls are not appropriate for the public. They need to cover up what God gave em. The same goes for too short shorts on guys and those hideous half shirts or mesh shirts (Ugh!) that look like crap on most males.
I'm not opinionated, I just tell the truth! ;) heeheehee :hysteria:

Re: Please wear an actual shirt
Okay, I'm not saying that you are wrong about her age, but please don't just assume (obviously if you saw them all the time, you are more likely to know the girl's age). I am 23 and frequently get mistaken for somebody as young as 12. I haven't grown taller (just wider) since I was in 6th grade, in fact, I still have some clothes from that age that fit. When I was in a third grade classroom, several of my students were excited because they were taller than me! Now, I don't dress like I'm going to club (unless I was going to PI), but I do dress differently than when I was 13 or 14. I don't own anything super revealing, but I do have some v-necks that I wear with camis, and I'm not sure a 13 or 14 year old should wear something like that. I often go out with my mom when I visit, so people are more likely to assume I am younger. So please don't assume that you know somebody's age by first glance.june1st1997 wrote:As a mother (of a 2yr old) and having been a teen girl myself... I cannot accept that these mothers are unaware of what is going on. As you said her mother was with her.
There is a young girl and her mother who visit our local Coffee Bean. We have been regulars for 10 years so you start to see alot of the same people over and over.
Anyway, the girl must have been 13 or 14 when when they first started going. She dressed like she was 21 and going to a club. She was there with her mother at 7am. Short skirts. White tank tops with no bra. Big sunglasses. Lots of lip gloss. They were always seen chatting up men. The mother seemed to encourage it. I always thought of her as her daughter's pimp.
I have a cousin whose mother used to dress her up, do her makeup and take her to the mall to meet boys. At 12. This woman was obsessed with how beautiful her daughter was. At 12 my cousin was 5'7" long legs, blonde hair. She was convinced her daughter would be the next Cindy Crawford.
She became a teen mother. The father of her first kid was in his 20's and landed in prison for something else (otherwise I'm pretty sure my uncle would have killed him).
I think some of these mothers are living vicariously through their girls.
Pathetic.

Oh, none taken. I like to drive off-road, and when I am headed in a direction that will cause me to just spin my wheels, I change direction :) Although sometimes it is fun to sling mud ;)Kwahati wrote: Hey, ktulu: seriously, no offense intended bro. Just havin' a conversation...
