Not So Stupid Guest

Post by Syndrome » Sat Jul 26, 2008 6:04 pm

Whoa...had a shocker at WDW today! Mr. Syndrome and I were at Epcot and rode Soarin' with a FP. We had gotten another set later too; the time was way too late for us since we had to get home to work, but I figured I could give them away on our way out. I asked a CM if he could give them to someone later, and he actually had to FPs for maybe 90 mins. earlier and offered to swap. I was drooling even tho' I knew that would still be pushing it, but I took them...figured I could give those away if we still couldn't stay. But a guest with his little daughter overheard me and offered us to FPs for right then! He said he had 4 and they were staying late so he'd be happy to swap two for my later ones. I was totally shocked and felt bad that I didn't bring my fanny pack so I could give the little girl a pin. I sure hope that the good karma comes back to him. :D:

That was nice, too bad the CM couldn't give them some sort of pin for being a caring guest!! (Hmm, a "Not an SG" pin?)

A NSSG pin...I love it!

Unfortunately the CM didn't see/overhear the interaction. The guest heard us and approached us after we stepped away from the entrance.

I'm a dip and haven't been to EPCOT in a long, long while but there's a lot of talk about "Soarin'" on this forum. What's the deal with this ride? I used to love "If you had wings" - esp. the flying bits - is this something like that?

Yes and no. You're on a large contraption where you are in a seat, seatbelt holding you in, and then nothing but the Omnimax screen ahead of you. The seats move, and you forget you're in a room full of people if they don't scream (ooh's and aah's, etc. are okay, just no shrieking, there's no reason). The flight camera work is beautiful. It's a unique experience that includes all the senses but taste. The smell of pine trees in Northern California was enough to make me homesick for a moment.

Please, do yourself a favor and get out of your "dip"!!! Soarin' is an amazing experience -- it comes really, really close to making you feel like you are flying.

Just get to it early or be prepared to Fastpass (which you also need to get early)!

Or come out to DLR, and ride it at DCA (where it's truly the best ride in the park, and the only one actually developed completely by Imagineering for said park.)

Wow - sounds like something definitely worth seeing. I really liked the "Back to the Future" ride at Universal which sounds a *touch* like this. If it takes the best parts of "If You Had Wings" and multiplies it by 100x then it's a definite must-see.

Is it always crazy crowded? Even if I go on a Tuesday in October or November?

I'll second that! Soarin' at DCA is much more fun experience than at Epcot.

Come on October!
