Safety

Post by GMC » Sat Jul 31, 2004 3:51 am

So the other day i heard a story that very much bothered me, it comes from one of Indy's many down times. My friend and fellow indy cm, was asked to begin restarting vehicles while guests were still in the attraction(which beinges as soon as you enter the chamber of promises, and ends when you cross the station entry track switch. anyway, the adventure manager, and the working lead (who i think might be the A lead) gave my friend this order, and when he said he didn't feel safe doing it, the Manager's response was "It's not in the manual that we can't do it."

i'm very troubled with this all of the sudden :( , partly because i know that if it were me in that situation, and the manager/lead persisted, i would have set my ID and name tag on the tower console, and asked for my escort  . And it bothered me even further to hear that the guests were still at points where they'de have to cross in front of them. I know that the vehicles shouldn't be able to move while the rack is still set to access ok, but what if there was a blip in the system and one of those 7-ton transports leaped onto a guest. it's bad enough that there's a point where guests have to cross the track, but with active vehicles.. screw the efficency, sure Indy was probly up and running another 15-30 minutes faster, but none of the four keys take any kind of precednce over saftey, efficency least of all.

Is this something that i should talk to a (if not that particular) manager about, because as i mentioned, i'm very bothered by it :?:

You might want to. I used to know Indy and if I remember my training correctly, we were told to evac everyone and then reset the jeeps. Besides those jeeps can be scary when they're resetting, they remind me of Christine, and I just kept expecting one to start moving on it's own.

Mike is the A lead and I highly Doubt he would do something like that he never let anoyone do something like that on Thunder or Space when he lead there... and I use to work Indy before the stupid Landlock for 5 years and I know that we were not suposed to reset the Transports until all the guests were out of the attraction...

When it comes to safety issues where I work at I take a stepped approach. First I talk to the manager present, and file a grievance. When I get my first reply from the grivance and the remedy that I asked for isn't implimented I go to OSHA, or in the case of Disneyland go to DOSH. I don't like going to OSHA if I don't have to, but it's something that I will do.

ok so i talked to the manager, there was a good reason and i feel that the procedure was done safely, the cars were only started in areas where guests had been cleared, and the one was left off behind another one which had a parapelegic guest on board, the cars near guests, and the car behind the one with guests still on board, were all left off, so pretty much anything past the rat cave was tunred off, and the guests were up at the rolling ball. Once i got the whole story i was cool with it, so nothing to worry about, it was just poor communication.

Well Im glad there are saftey nuts on Indy now... I use to hate working there becasue some of the winners there that loved to send Transports on you whil you had the hold signal up or fastening seatbelts...
