Stock Holder?
Stock Holder?
Just wondering. For this board, does being a share holder make you "part of the company"? or am I still just a normal guest.

Re: Stock Holder?
Unless you are approaching "controlling interest" numbers, you can probably count your shares as "interested bystander". :D: Of course around here it seems that what counts more is an emotional tie to the parks and the people and places in and around them. I don't work there, and probably never will, but my opinions seem to be respected as much (or as little) as those who do.PapaMouse wrote:Just wondering. Re: Stock Holder?
Last I heard the Walt Disney Company had over 7 Million shareholders, with the majority owning ten shares or fewer. There were over 2 Billion shares voted at the last Annual Meeting.
200,000 shares would be 1/100 of 1%. You can take it from there.
I know that my approximately 600 shares is statistically insignificant, but I probably own more shares than 90% of the shareholders.

Re: Stock Holder?
You own about 30x what I do, Cheshire!
I agree that it's the emotional tie for most of us. I remember calling my broker and placing the buy order, and he looked up on his computer and starting rattling off the brokerage's forecast and recommendation for DIS. I remember thinking, I really don't care about all that, just buy the stock! :)
Unfortunately, some bonehead SGs will try to turn anything into an entitlement, whether it's annual passes, stock holders, DVC membership, or a stubbed toe. Any of you CMs ever get the "I pay your salary" line? If so, you might try saying what a police officer friend of mine did to a driver getting ticketed:
Disgruntled driver: You're giving me a ticket? I'm a taxpayer! I pay your salary!
Officer: (digs in his pocket for change) Here's your nickel back. :D: :D:
Okay, yeah, it did get him in hot water, but he says it was worth it. :)

You need to own an insane amout of shares just to get
an invite to the shareholders convention.
But you get a pretty quarterly report in the mail! :D:

You used to automatically get membership in the Magic Kingdom Club, which, among other things, would give a 20% discount on rooms almost all year as well as a 10% discount on purchased of merchandise at the parks and TDS.BRWombat wrote:Unfortunately, some bonehead SGs will try to turn anything into an entitlement, whether it's annual passes, stock holders, DVC membership, or a stubbed toe.
No, you only need one share to be allowed entry. The first time (of four) that I asked Mikey a nasty question Judy and I only owned five shares of stock.Natural Selection Fan wrote:You need to own an insane amount of shares just to get an invite to the shareholders convention.

Re: Stock Holder?
Actually, not true. I own two shares. When I got my proxy voting paperwork this year, there were instructions on how I could request tickets to the shareholder's meeting. I would have gone, had it not been in Albequerque (and if I could have afforded gas, food, and lodging, I would even have gone then. I've got friends there.) Essentially, EVERY shareholder has the right, provided they follow procedure, to attend the Shareholder's meeting in person.Natural Selection Fan wrote:You need to own an insane amout of shares just to get
