I thought this might be the place to get an answer about tipping. On the old DDP how did the gratuity work? Did the server get 18% of the menu prices (and then tip out bussers/runners ect.)? That seems like more than I'd expect Mickey to part with, although that's what would be fair to the servers. The new plan has less value than the old but it's probably good for most.
On a related note, we just returned from WDW and used the DDE. Some servers were better than others describing the auto-gratuity. Those who mentioned it received our thanks, and an additional tip. Some hid the detail sheets and one didn't even give it to us in the folder. Left a bad impression. All-in-all a good trip, and great servers.
Question for servers.
Re: Question for servers.
We've only used our DDE card once since they added the auto-gratuity. Our server didn't mention it one way or another, and I actually didn't expect that because I already knew about it...I didn't feel like she was hiding it. The service had been very good so we added enough to bring it up to 20%. We'll be using it again tonight so I'll see if there is anything different.

Re: Question for servers.
The answer to your question depended upon where you worked. If you were at a Disney owned restaurant, yes, Mickey did pay you the full 18% of menu prices. At non-disney owned participating restaurants, they got a flat rate per guest based on what Mickey reimbursed the restaurant.
