Theme Park Where wrote:You're correct - Disney (and some other theme parks as well) do a great job of assisting those with disabilities. They provide easier access, unobstructive viewing areas, etc. But there are those guests who feel the disability is their ticket to get better treatment than anyone else. I've had people insist they can't wait a second for a ride because of a disability. There are some disabilities where long waits are a problem, but for most theme park guests with disabilities, the problem is with HOW they wait in line (sitting vs. standing, etc.) not THAT they wait in line. Using a disability to get to the front of the line in those instances is demanding better than equal treatment IMHO and frankly sours the CMs against those who really DO need to bypass the wait entirely because of their disability. We've had guests use their disability to get into a show that was already full or to push someone who got their earlier than they did out of their seat. That's demanding more than equal treatment. That's what I meant when I said that. EVERYONE deserves to enjoy the parks and the attractions equally. Sometimes the parks have to do something different to allow different guests to experience the same level of enjoyment. But everyone pays the same amount of money to get in for the most part, and they all deserve to get that enjoyment. That's why people like that father, who USE the disability to create an advantage really bother me.
People really use a disability to make someone LEAVE a show and go in, in their place??????

Holey crap! See, if I were a CM, I would say, NO!!!!! The ADA provides for up to equal access if it can be given, (on a ride like Indy, it cannot be given...) NOT MORE than equal access. I wish I was around in my chair when someone on a scooter or chair tried to pull that shit. They would be crawling away with their double chin, (they would have one after I tried to pull their damn head off their neck!!!) dragging behind them. Unbelievable. But I guess I SHOULD believe it, since I have seen what some SGs do. I still get surprised when I hear of some SG tricks. Maybe working at WDW will cure me of my still ever present idealism, even at the ripe old age of 53!
I would not allow anyone to take advantage of the system in that way. How do they get away with it? How can you ask someone else to leave to accommodate a self centered pig? If I were already seated for a show and asked to leave to allow for that, I would tell them no, they can wait just like EVERYONE else. They are no better than anyone, thus they get to wait like everyone else. Too many nice bleedin' hearts lettin' em get away with it.
I asked for no more than anyone else when I was in a chair and even apologized often for the problems it caused. They ARE cumbersome and get in the way! The way I saw some of those CMs pick up that scooter and put it where they needed it was amazing!

I had no problem following any directions that a CM gave me to enter an attraction or where to leave the wheels.
There were many others on wheels that DID cause traffic jams and zoomed around like it was NASCAR or something, not watching out for others. That pissed my off. Made me want to drive out in front of em and stop THEIR scooter with mine and give them a lecture. But I can't spend my whole vacation scolding SGs, I have to have SOME fun! ;)
Of course reprimanding SGs is a type of fun, I just need some MAGIC as well, when I get to Destination Disney!!! :D:
Man, I just feel for CMs more and more with every story I read here. :( What you all have to put up with? Y'all should be given a tazer and when an SG acts up? Zzzzzzzzzztttttttt!
heehehee...
