Resort ? - Trying Not to be a SG

Post by Luthien » Fri Jan 11, 2008 3:52 pm

Sooo....I've been a lurker for quite some time and have finally come out of hiding. I hope that someone that is a castmember in resorts or knows someone that is can answer my question.

My family (me, hubby, son 14, daughters 8 & 6) will be arriving 1/26 - 2/3, we are flying for the first time (No 2 day drive from CT!) and I was thinking of shipping water and snacks to our resort (we are staying at the Yacht Club).

No flames please buuuut... I read on Board X that people have used several of the Orlando shopping services to have grocery type items delivered and had Costco ship water to their resort. This is a very attractive option to me however, this is where my question comes in ... Does this create alot of extra work and/or aggravation for the castmembers working at the resort? I know that they have tons of stuff to deal with as it is and would hate to be one more PITA SG! Since we have always driven in the past this was never an issue for us - pack the stuff in the minivan with the rest of the junk!

Sorry for the long first post!

Oh and Happy Birthday ZaZu!

Cheers-
~Luthien

Not a whole lot more. Y&B is a convention resort, so they have a lot more product coming and going than a case or two of water. If you're taking the Magical Express and can't stop en route, this is probably your best bet.

OTOH, if you are renting or taking a town car from the airport, get of Hwy 417 at Orange Blossom Trail and avail yourself of the Super Target there. You get exactly what you want, there's no wait for delivery to your room, and it's no bother for anyone but the bellmen, and they're paid to haul stuff (tip them nicely, please).

Thanks, but it's Zazu -- only one upper case Z. No worry, you're new, thus forgiven.

From my visits, I don't think there are any problems with shipping / receiving there. My mom likes to UPS a bunch of tchotchkes home every few days after shopping at Downtown Disney :-P

There's a great Publix probably about a mile outside of the Buena Vista Drive gate (near all the non-Disney hotels and Downtown Disney). They have good prices on everything and the quality is superb. Avoid the shopping plaza right outside the gates across the street, as it's a complete tourist trap (particularly with their prices).

Hiya.

Luthien asked me why this was moved out of WDW. Anyone know that? If it's in error, then he'd love to see his post returned to the proper area... oh, and delete this post.

I don't know if BJ's is a chain that goes out of Florida, but they have good prices... think a Cosco with music and friendly people.

But most importantly, welcome to :sgt: from :wombat: and :wallaby: !

The closest BJ's to WDW is either Kissimmee or I4 at Conroy Rd.

You also can use someone like Staples. They sell water and some snack foods and have free shipping deals all the time.

We did the Towncar from the airport and were able to pick up EVERYTHING we needed to take with us. It worked so well. Ralph got a bottle of Rum (I know you like that, Grumpy!) from a liquor store and we got some other needed items from the grocery store. That is a great way to do it! Good advice Zazu! As always, you are always on top of things! :)

We also always ship home all our purchases right out of the Hotel shipping area. In the Contemporary it was over in the convention center area. At the Boardwalk, Ralph took it so I don't rightfully know where they shipped it from, but it was from the Hotel. That is the only way to send stuff home. Especially for us, since we usually have about 6-8 big cartons going out. We but presents for the whole family and of course more stuff for our collection!

Remember RUM is not only for recreation, but is a good for meds!!!

I did the shipping thing. I have a large pelican case, and DW and I shipped the bulk of our clothing, extra shoes, sunblock, etc. ahead via Fedex ground. (about 45 bucks) San Diego to Orlando, we then just took a couple of days clothing in our suitcase for the airline!! Didn't have to tote things around the airport!! (going to sneak in some Coffee and a water purifier next year!!)

If you stay concierge at the Deluxe resorts, you can get all the beverages and bottled water you want to take with you to the Parks from the concierge lounge! They have so many goodies, you could make a meal of it! And you will get coffee packets, and all the condiments to go with coffee in your room with a coffemaker, so you won't even have to leave the room to get coffee in the morning when you have bedhead and halitosis! :p:

Concierge is grand way to stay in a Disney resort! The Contemporary can't be beat for service, we had less than stellar service at the Boardwalk and will be at the Yacht Club this year along with the Contemporary. I think we have our days now. May 2-May 22 half the trip at the Giant Toaster and half at Yacht. I MUST swim in Stormalong Bay! I must!!!!! I gazed longinly at it the last time we came because we were at the Boardwalk and went over to the Yacht to look around and catch our Illuminations boat cruise from their dock! Me likey the The Yacht Club. The trip after this one coming up, I want to stay at Animal Kingdom, so I can enjoy the Sunrise and Sunset safaries. And maybe a stint at the Poly. Have not stayed there yet, although we did do the Spirit of Aloha luau dinner there. It was cornball, but fun and the food was great! I also want to do the Hoop-de-do Barbecue this trip at Wilderness. And if my back is up to it, do some horseback riding there! So much to plan...So much fun! :D: I LOVE WDW!!!! It is becoming my fave, because there is so much more to do there and I want to live nearby and work there! :D:
I still love DL for being the original, but WDW is fast becoming more attractive a destination. I LOVE Florida!!!! What can I say?

If you swim at Stormalong Bay, maybe you can meet Big Wallaby's wife! :)
