Official SGT ADD thread

A place to be entertained. Videos, jokes, games, and more.
Forum rules
At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.

Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

Not knowing how your dishwasher drain hose is connected I gonna take a SWAG on the root mean cause of the odor. The drain hose should be connected to a inlet on the side of the garbage disposal. That means it'll be on the upstream side of the P Trap. If it's on the down stream side side of the P Trap and the dishwasher isn't used, the water in the hose will evaporate and allow gas to come out of the dishwasher vent on the back of the sink. A simple hose reroute job may be in order.

If the odor is coming out of the sink drain, all you need to do is run the faucet for a couple of seconds to fill the P Trap.

Hope that helps.
Wow...who knew there was a plumber here on SGT? Were you at Watergate too? :D: (obscure reference for the young ones who don't remember that incident!) Thanks Hobie! Running water does not help. It is still stinkin' up the joint. The plumber who was here last said we HAVE to run the dishwasher in order to stop it from smelling, so I guess the problem is around the hookup with the dishwasher. W'll get him out here again and I will pay attenmtion to what he is doing this time, instead of letting Ralph get the info. Gurls can be good plumbers too!!!!!!! :p:

Dishwashers also have to be regularly run to keep the pump seals from drying out and leaking. The only fix for that is to replace the dishwasher.

It appears the DW drain hose is hooked up downstream of the P Trap. Look at the garbage disposal under the sink. Is there a plastic tube sticking out from the side towards the top? If there is, move the DW drain hose to it. Before hooking up the hose, you'll need to take a screwdriver and punch out a plastic plug inside the tube so the DW will drain into the disposal.

You'll also need to cap off wherever the DW drain hose was attached to prevent gas and water from leaking.

Good luck!

I concur. That should fix the sewer gas problem.

I was going to add my nickles worth, but they covered it!! I had to re-pipe my whole house a few years ago, and I remember the plumbers took extra time re-doing the dishwasher connections!!
