It's time again for DisneyMom to completely loose track of what she was doing.

Official SGT ADD thread
Forum rules
At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.
Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

I've hired a lot of people over the years. Enthusiasm and want to overcome a lot of negatives.felinefan wrote:Hi everybody! Just trying to keep this site alive with a random post!

Dress for success.
Arrive on time or earlier for the interview.
Firm handshake.
Positive impression with everyone you come in contact with. There are no little people.
Good body language. Do not cross your arms. Look the interviewer in the eye.
Ask high impact questions.
Sell yourself and close the deal.
Bring references.
Thank everyone you interview with.
Good luck!

Re: Official SGT ADD thread
To Hobie's excellent general-purpose advice, I would add these:
* Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the scope of the job you're applying for. In the case of DL custodial, this means trash cans, toilets, and a whole lot of guest questions. Custodial cast generally have more guest contact than other CMs.
* Because of the above, how easily you talk with strangers and odd questions is part of the audition process, especially the careful listening part.
* Have two transportation plans. Your own car is fine, but you should also know which bus routes you'll use when the car isn't working; and in case of rain.
* Don't be shy about admitting you love the product. This means the Parks (both of them), Disney films, and the characters. They're likely to ask who your favorite character is. (Hint: Ward Kimball isn't an acceptable answer, despite his appearing in "The Nifty Nineties">)
* If they don't have anything in custodial, ask if they have other positions open, or if they can keep your application open until an opening occurs.
Go break a leg!

Well, I don't have a car. There are buses that go there, including Disney transportation. I definitely have to bone up on Disneyland Resort stuff; haven't been there since 1980. I checked, and they don't seem to have custodial listed again. Fave character: Thurl Ravenscroft. I already do janitorial at my church; watched their video for custodial, and it seems it's less work than I do at church! I remember, it may have been my first visit in 1966 or so, seeing a guy using a broom and dustpan to sweep up trash, and I thought that was so cool! They say call back in three weeks, and because I get busy, and have a hard time finding a quiet, private place to make a phone call, it's been tough getting some phone calls made.
They sure are hiring for Hong Kong, but that's too far of a commute.

But if you do decide to hire on at Hong Kong, make sure you know what bus routes you'll take to get there.felinefan wrote:...They sure are hiring for Hong Kong, but that's too far of a commute.

Close, but wrong. To get to a magical place like Disney, you need to take the Star Fairy!hobie16 wrote:You can always take the Star Ferry.BRWombat wrote:But if you do decide to hire on at Hong Kong, make sure you know what bus routes you'll take to get there.felinefan wrote:...They sure are hiring for Hong Kong, but that's too far of a commute.
Re: Official SGT ADD thread
Tried calling the number for Disney Casting I got off of Yahoo answers--1 800 766-0888--only to get a message saying the number has been disconnected, with no further details.
Anybody know what the current Disney Casting phone number is for DLR?
