bpgstudios wrote:Same thing happens at carrousel. People walk in, hop one chain, and find themselves trapped in a chain triangle. They end up stuck since they cant cross into the ride area, cant get back into line (since people have filed in and its pretty small space) and cantgo to the left since that puts them further out of line. I usually don't get involved, except to say "please dont cross over any chains in the walt disney world resort." or if they do cross into the ride area.

Small world they do it too sometimes. They cross chains when our queue isnt full, and often end up having to backtrack, cross another chain, and end up further than they started.
I second everything that bpgstudios just said.

Oh I just love that when you put up the Wishes ropes or the parade ropes that people just love to seem shocked that they are there. When f land get roped off for wishes we do not do it just to get in your way, or to make it so you cannot buy from the shop that you wanted to. We do it for everyones safety. I really love it when they try to say but my familly is in there, and my response always is they will be comming out shortly but you cannot go in, but they do not seem to understand and argue with me till their familly gets escorted out of the area then try to play it off as they were just being funny to the rest of their party. The thought that maybe there is a good reason for them to make us walk around this bend or not go over the chains really does not seem to be in any guests mind, SG or not. I have even had problems with cast playing in the parks with doing this. Ok I need to hand the soapbox over now before I get myself into trouble ;) .

Sometimes it works the other way.

Several years ago we were attending a convention at the Anaheim Marriott, se we flew out early to go to the NFFC meeting and have a few days at DL before the convention. This was late June/early July. For a couple of days the temperatures were in the low 100's, but at least very dry.

One day it was getting close to parade time, and we saw the crowd control people in place, but no ropes. We asked about it and the response was that there were fewer than 10,000 people in the Park and there was no need to put the ropes up. However, they did ask us to remain behind the invisible ropes, so we did. Not only that, but being good Disney Guests we remined other people that during the parade they had to remain behind the invisible ropes; people complied with no problem and many appeciated the suggestion.

For those of you who don't know, at Safaris we park the guests strollers for them when they get close to the load dock; that lets the kids stay in the stroller through most of the line. This however is a great source of confusion for the guests. They leave their strollers randomly in the middle of the queue, or right in front of the attraction. But if they make it beyond that, they always get confused by our parking area.

We actually have 2 of them... when one fills up, we close that one off and move to the other, back and forth throughout the day. The problems arise when we are working in the area that the guests come to second in the queue. This means that they have to pass an area full or strollers. We block the entrance off with a rope fence, and move a trash can in front of that, but it never stops the guests from throwing their strollers over the fence, or moving the ropes and the trashcan.

I caught one guest red-handed. He had already dropped the ropes and was moving the trashcan. I asked him what he was doing and he said: "Oh, isn't this where we park strollers?" So I asked him why we would put a fence and a trashcan in the way if we wanted him to put his stroller there and he replied: "Well you guys block off all kinds of walkways and stuff where people can go, I just figured this was one of the places where you have to move the rope to get in." I informed him that actually, those areas are usually blocked off for safety reasons and he should never be letting himself in anywhere. He just looked at me like I was a Martian, left his stroller in the queue and walked away. :banghead:

Argh. One couple came into Mexico one day, before it opened. There are supposed to be ropes up at all the entrances, but sometimes the clueless window washers or others don't put the ropes back up. That area opens to Norway breakfast guests, but that doesn't mean the pavilion does!

So down they come and I happened to be in the shop. I told them that there was a rope, right? Oh, yes, but they just took it down. ....and came past it.....I explained the whole rope and not-open-to-guests-yet concept. They were nice people, and seemed to understand.

But---when there is a rope up across a walkway, don't you think that MAYBE your presence is NOT welcome there??

I understand that this happens quite often in Mexico.

Today at Storybook, we had closed for the parade and our line is gone. In the seven minutes it took for the last loaded boat to get back and for us to pull the boats back into storage we had not one, but two groups come into our queue. Now for those of you who may not be familiar with how Storybook is closed, there is not only a chain going across the entrance but a trash can in the center of the entrance as well, how much more of a hint do you need that the ride is closed. The first group I saw coming in, going over other chains in our queue, and I told them we're closed that's why there's a chain and trash can in the way.

I may be one of your SG's about this issue (in CA, at DL).

The issue is, that during high-peak times for the Haunted Mansion, part of the roped-off extended queue, blocks off the Service Dog relief area in the planter near the exit to the New Orleans train station.

The Guide for Guests with disabilities *does* say " Service animals are welcome to use any open outdoor area for relief as long as the owner picks up after the animal and leaves the area clean.", and I always pick up anything that is possible to pick up with a dog-relief bag,
but only - "number two" can be picked up, and I hear you guys (rightly!) complain when guests let their *children* use any available planter,
so we try to only use the _designated_ planters.

But when the one in New Orleans is roped in, the next nearest are at the Hub, or Frontierland near the Ranch.

Our seizure alert/wheelchair assistance dog is a 12# terrier, and we do walk him frequently - but as slow as I move, and as hard as it is for a wheelchair to (politely) move through a crowd -- the time it would take us to get to another "designated" planter could be an hour or more, and that isn't always possible.

So, when it's blocked, we can either use the planter door that's closer to the Cafe (sort've behind the DVC cart?), or else politely ask the on-duty CM near the end of the HM extended queue for permission to slip under the (tied off to the fences!) rope, to use the correct planter.
(We can get around by the train exit, near that bench along the brick wall, so that it only involves a short distance of 'line intrusion', and doesn't disrupt anything.)

I realize that we could just avoid New Orleans during any busy time, but - PotC is one of our favorites, and since we are often only able to do one Attraction per day (DL railroad and/or Monorail aside, as we use them whenever possible to get from place to place - we love the trains too, and they save my chair's battery - or mine/the dog's, if I'm in a manual chair!).

Also, PotC is one of the best places in the entire park, to "hide" from the nightly fireworks, if we aren't able to get OUT of the park in time (Red Rockett's Pizza Port is another, if people will leave the door closed!

[I love the fireworks, but even with DogMuffs, they hurt my dog's ears, and they also can trigger my wife's motion disorder, and her panic attacks, which are physical not psychological for her -- an adrenaline disorder.]

I suppose I'm asking if it is a SGT to need use of that planter on days when HM is busy.
Also, the one at the Hub is not an option for us during the hours that the horses are out, because they frighten the dog.
(We either spend mornings and early afternoon in DCA, or take the Monorail to Tomorrowland and then the train to wherever we are going, to avoid Main Street during those hours. If the Monorail is down, we tuck the dog in his carrier and make our way through the shops as best we can, until either the Adventureland or Tomorrowland turnoffs...)

Thank you and sorry for long post (and for posting a DL question in a WDW thread - this is where the topic was...)

Please PM me (or post here) if I've annoyed anyone with this post. Honestly trying to NOT be a SG -- we *love* and are *grateful* to all CM's. Have only had two negative interactions, out of many thousands of positive ones!

Having not worked at DL, I can't say for sure that they don't mind, but I, for one, would have no problem with you (and your service pooch) unclipping a rope to get to a designated service animal grassy knoll, as long as you put the rope back when you're done. (I would prefer to be asked first, but really, as long as you're polite, I wouldn't have an issue ... although I'm sure some CMs that may be having a bad day might snap at you if not asked first)

Never a good idea to get between a desperate person -- or dog -- and the restroom. They're likely to get pissed off and you're likely to get pissed on!

Ianto, to address your first line only -- You:

(1) are concerned about following the rules and proper behavior;
(2) pick up after yourself; and
(3) care about how your actions affect others.

Sorry, but you are way underqualified to be an SG!
