That's the first time we'd ever seen that kind of activity. Usually the mammas will let the babies approach a boat for a close look but them move then away. It appeared they'd been at it for some time before we arrived.

It turned out to be a great day to go out. Sun, flat water at first and light wind. After we left the Maui Princess we headed towards Lanai. Saw a few more whales but nothing as good as the pirate attack. Onboard were Mrs. Hobie, Mr. and Mrs. OhDean, SurfGod and me.

SurfGod took the helm while OhDean acted like a riding mechanic and made continual checks on water temp and other engine functions. As we got farther out in the roadstead we hit some pretty good sized rollers. The ladies were forward screaming every time some spray hit them while SurfGod was pushing the boat to see how she'd handle. She did great at all points in relation to the rollers.

We made a big u turn around a tug and barge and headed back to Lahaina. As we're all hard core mariners we tied up to a empty mooring and had cheese and crackers.

The next trip to Lanai will be to support SurfGod's son. He's taking a celestial navigation class and has to use a sextant to navigate us across the roadstead. We will, of course, have lunch at Manele Bay in one of Larry's hotels.

Here in Hawaii even the dogs enjoy bananas.

Will Scooter eat it? or is it more of a smearing it around the house thing?

Both of our dogs love bananas. It's a favorite treat for them when they get riper than we want to eat. We do peel them for the digs, though.

Our banana pad is so thick that occasionally we don't see a ripe bunch. That doesn't stop the birds or the dogs.

The birds open up the ripe ones and eat the stuff inside. The dogs wait until the ripe ones fall on the ground and bring them in the house. Two day ago my wife discovered that both dogs had their own pile of bananas that they'd brought in. Once their pile is complete they break them open and eat them. By the time she discovered the piles each dog had eaten five bananas.

I was watching an episode of Huell Houser last night, one on Delta pears. As he was touring a pear orchard, Huell noticed a dog eating a pear, and pointed this out to the owner. Yes, dogs eat pears, too. When I was a kid, from time to time Mom would buy a coconut at the store, and we would all get together to drain out the coconut milk--or water, as it's called now--crack it open and share the meat. One time we let our weimaraner dog drink the water from the coconut, earning him the comment "Hawaiian dog."
