Glow With The Show Ears

At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.
Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

I believe a good source of information regarding the workings of Pal Mickey, aside from the folks who actually worked on him, would be one Brian Kendig of http://www.enchanter.net. He has done a bit of research on Pal Mickey.

has to be more to sync it to music.kurtisnelson wrote:How often does he refresh? They might just use a proprietary radio signal but only near the gates of the park. I wouldn't think wifi would make sense either, it'd be absolute overkill and raise the price of pal mickey, he'd need a real OS running on him.
Edit: Read the patents, it's a mix of infrared and radio, with it degrading to radio when no infrared is available. All phrases are preloaded, the signal can only choose them.
So I'm betting glow with the show is simply IR that broadcasts a color value.
and a off command too. other wise they would flash untill the battery died.

I'm thinking they only flash while receiving the signal, that way if one leaves early they turn off.drcorey wrote:has to be more to sync it to music.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

Nope. All you need is an IR stream that broadcasts 3 bytes, making an RGB pair. Whatever RGB value is currently on the stream you display. If no stream is present, wait a bit in the off position and then go into the random mode they have. The hats also behave to the Mad T Party DJ and glow orange in cars land, so it doesn't require a preset show as shown by the DJ.drcorey wrote:has to be more to sync it to music.

Once the batteries have died, the remaining ears will be shipped to WDW for sale to guests !NemoRanger wrote:DAMN YOU DISNEYLAND! You folks get the coolest stuff. We only get your hand me downs. I am tried of wearing old ears!

Re: Glow With The Show Ears
When we were visiting for the Cars Land AP preview, on our first fastpass of the day it spit out passes to get the glow ears and register to attend the first showing of WOC with the ears. Sadly, we were unable to go. I guess we'll fork out the $$$$ for the kids to have these. Then figure out how to trigger them at home and freak people out :D:
