New Podcast

Post by Belgarion42 » Wed Jun 20, 2012 2:06 pm

Hi everyone!

I've been MIA here for along time. I've had a ton going on (both good and not-so-good) and just couldn't get back here.

Now I'm back, though, with an invitation I hope some of you will be interested in.

There are a ton of Disney podcasts out there, but I don’t know of any dedicated specifically to the Disney Cast Members, Imagineers, animators, and actors. You love Disney (at least the ones I would talk to do), you have great stories, and this will provide an outlet for you to share both. You are the ones that make and have made The Walt Disney Company what it is, and I am grateful to you for that—and I’m not the only one.

Before going into any more detail, I know that I can't talk to current Disney Cast Members or other employees. I talked to Disney public relations, and they said that Cast Members aren't allowed to to talk to the media about Disneyland, what they do, or really anything about the Walt Disney Company at all. And that's fine (though not what I would prefer), but as I understand it, there are no such restrictions on former Cast Members.

So, this podcast would be an interview-format, where you can talk about how long you worked for Disney, why you loved what you did, stories you want to tell, etc. Nothing proprietary or negative, just a reflection of the very best of what Disney is. I have no doubt that there are plenty of "dirty underbelly" stories, but that's not the purpose or focus of this podcast.

I would also offer the opportunity for Cast Members or other employees to call into a listener feedback line or write in and share a story or special memory, and for guests to call in with stories of something a Cast Member did to make their visit special, or something they were able to do for a Cast Member. Officially, I can only ask former CM's to call or write in, but if you are current and want to do either anonymously, that is your choice.

These are the kinds of questions we would talk about:
* How long did you work for Disney?
* What did you do?
* What got you interested in working for Disney (and/or for doing what you did for Disney)?
* What did you love most about what you did?
* What inspires you?
* Do you have any favorite stories of something that made magic for a guest or even something a guest did that made magic for you?
* If you could have any job working for the Walt Disney Company, what would it be, and why?
* Do you have any tips that you want to share with guests? Maybe something they may not know that could make their visit better?

So, that's what I have in mind. I already have about a half-dozen guests lined up, but I'd really like to get some more. What I'd like to ask any former CM's here is...

1) Would you like to be a guest on the podcast?
2) Do you know anyone else who might be?

If the answer to either or both of these is "yes", I would really appreciate hearing from you!

Thanks!
~ Randy

A podcast is basically an internet radio show that you have control over when you listen. Think of a regular radio show--the closest comparison is talk radio, but it's not always talk. Now take out the commercials, with the possible exception of a brief sponsor mention somewhere in it. That's basically the format.

In general, podcasts are downloaded to mobile devices like iPods, iPhones, Droids, etc. though they can also be played directly from your computer, either in iTunes or from the podcast's website. The way most people use them (though you don't have to do it this way) is to subscribe to them, generally in iTunes, but there are some new apps people are using now like Stitcher that are really gaining in popularity. When a new episode is released, it is automatically downloaded to your device, and then you can listen to it whenever and wherever you want to.

I could go into a bit more detail, but that's the gist of it. Does that make sense?

I remember all of the above. If you were like my family, though, you did have remote control. My dad would just tell me, "Get up and go change the channel for me!" :D:
