One of my first jobs, the guy immediately over me was lazy but a brown noser and the guy over him was an idiot -- people upstairs knew I was doing both my and my boss' jobs but the head of our department never clued in and finally fired me. My immediate boss followed me out into the parking lot, begging me to tell him how to do his job! He literally had no idea how to run some of his own equipment, let alone organize his day and the like.
