Hey, do you know why security (and supervisors) wear ear pieces with their walkie talkies??

Security guard at DL was using his Motorola radio to help subdue a violent guest.

Unfortunately he had the radio keyed when he shouted, "stupid mother (fornicator) lay flat, lay flat!"

And that tidbit blared over every open radio in the park. The line at City Hall was longer than Matterhorn's that night and the parks Motorola rep got a great order for 130 earpieces at about $40 each.

Not a put down tommy, just an FYI. I'm close to many CMs in Security & they make it clear they are referred to as "officers" not guards. :)

I think the ear pieces are a great idea. Even if the language is all appropriate a lot of things go out over those radios that guests shouldn't or don't need to hear.

Okay, my overactive imagination kicked in when I heard "ear-pieces" and I imagined said devices as being in the shape of the the famous ears of The Mouse himself.... :cat1:

Earpieces are simply convenient. Forget the aspect of a guest hearing your conversation (if you are coding your calls, that won't be an issue...). Having a piece ensures that, first, the wearer will hear the transmission - an in-ear piece will not compete with surrounding radio traffic or other sound - second, gives the wearer the free hand needed, and third, provides a convenient location and device for transmitting. Pieces also reduce the chance of feedback or 'garbled speech' when in a group.

And at Disney, having an earpiece to keep conversations quiet simply enhances "the show."

I've learned that they like to dress as scraggly tourists and look like they are taking a nap on the middle planter at MK turnstiles.
